Dave Grohl recently opened up about his deeply emotional experience performing with AC/DC, revealing that the moment nearly brought him to tears. Foo Fighters shared the stage with the legendary Australian band during two shows last month after The Pretty Reckless had to withdraw from the lineup.
Emotional Performance at MetLife Stadium
During an interview with New Zealand radio station The Rock, Grohl recounted the poignant experience of performing at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. He specifically recalled playing the classic AC/DC track Highway To Hell. “It was so crazy because my wife was on the side of the stage,” he reflected. “I walked off stage, and I broke down in tears, sobbing like a baby. I was sobbing, like wailing, sobbing, and I couldn’t believe it. I was, like, ‘That is one of the most full-circle moments of my entire life,’ and I will never forget it.”
Influence of AC/DC on Grohl’s Career
Grohl further elaborated on how influential AC/DC has been in his life, citing experiences watching their 1980 documentary Let There Be Rock as a pivotal moment in his musical journey. “Watching a band go on stage and just destroy the stage and equipment and themselves for an hour and a half… I didn’t know that’s how you play rock’n’roll,” he shared, highlighting the stark difference between his perception of rock at the time and the raw energy of an AC/DC performance. “I was, like, ‘That’s what I wanna be when I grow up. I wanna be that guy.’”
