James Wan and Jason Blum have announced a significant collaboration in the horror film industry with the launch of Blumhouse Atomic, a new umbrella title for their merged production companies, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. Despite the merger, both Blumhouse and Atomic Monster will continue to operate as separate labels, allowing their creative teams to develop and produce film and television projects under each brand.
Growth Through Collaboration
Jason Blum, Co-Founder of Blumhouse Atomic, expressed optimism about the merger, stating, “When we merged our companies, we believed the whole would be greater than the sum of its parts and that is exactly what has happened. Blumhouse Atomic is a natural evolution of what we’ve built together.” He highlighted the success of iconic horror franchises such as “The Conjuring,” “Insidious,” and “Saw,” noting that no filmmaker has generated more franchises than Wan. Blum added, “We have the output of a studio with the creative freedom and financial discipline of an independent company, and more opportunities than ever to take these stories beyond the theater and into television, games, and live experiences.”
Financial Success and Future Prospects
The merger took place in 2024, merging two powerhouses in horror production. Since their collaboration, Blumhouse Atomic has generated over $2.5 billion in global box office revenue against combined production costs of less than $330 million. In 2026 alone, the company earned an impressive $1.3 billion, buoyed by hits such as Curry Barker’s “Obsession,” which grossed $520 million worldwide, and Kane Parsons’ “Backrooms,” bringing in $400 million globally.
Championing New Talent
James Wan shared his vision for the future of Blumhouse Atomic: “The future of horror comes from new voices, and Blumhouse Atomic gives us more ways to find them and support them for the long haul.” Wan emphasized his personal commitment to nurturing new talent, recalling his own beginnings with independent films. He aims to provide opportunities for filmmakers like Kane Parsons, Curry Barker, Josh Giuliano, and Dylan Clark, fostering lasting relationships beyond a single project.
Strategic Initiatives and Upcoming Projects
To further its mission of creating blockbuster horror hits from smaller budgets, Blumhouse Atomic has appointed Sam Zimmerman as senior vice president of development and acquisitions. He will focus on developing a slate of genre features with budgets under $5 million. Additionally, the company has secured a first-look deal with Divide/Conquer to develop high-concept projects at an economical rate.
A Glimpse into the Future
Looking ahead, Blumhouse Atomic’s 2027 film slate boasts an exciting array of titles, including “River,” “The Revenge of La Llorona,” “The Exorcist: Martyrs,” “Anything But Ghosts,” “Paranormal Activity,” “Molepeople,” “Blair Witch,” “Sleepover,” and “Seasons.” As the merged entity forges ahead, it promises to further redefine the landscape of horror filmmaking while continuing to deliver compelling narratives to audiences worldwide.
