The ever-innovative Gorillaz have thrilled fans worldwide with the announcement of their forthcoming ninth album, The Mountain. Set for release on March 20, 2026, this highly anticipated collaborative project will showcase an impressive lineup, including Trueno, Idles, and Bizarrap. With its eclectic mix and global reach, The Mountain promises to be a groundbreaking addition to the music world.
A Global Musical Feast
Gorillaz, crafted by the visionary Damon Albarn, have consistently pushed the boundaries of music, and The Mountain is no exception. Each track boasts at least one guest collaborator, with artists singing in languages such as Arabic, Hindi, Spanish, and Yoruba. From Idles joining them on “The God of Lying” to Argentinian DJ Bizarrap teaming up with Kara Jackson and Anoushka Shankar on “Orange County,” the album transcends borders. Additionally, Argentine rapper Trueno is set to captivate audiences alongside Proof on “The Manifesto.”
A Celebratory Launch
To mark the announcement, Gorillaz released “The Happy Dictator,” featuring Sparks. This track sets the stage for what the band describes as “a playlist for a party on the border between this world and whatever happens next.” Recorded across diverse locations like Studio 13 in London, India, Miami, Ashgabat, Damascus, and New York, the album showcases the group’s first venture under their indie label, Kong.
Touring the UK and Ireland
In conjunction with the album release, Gorillaz will embark on a UK and Ireland tour in March, hitting cities like Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Belfast, and Dublin. The excitement will culminate in a spectacular performance at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in June, with Trueno joining the band as an opener for most dates.
Building on Past Successes
The Mountain is Gorillaz’s first album since 2023’s Cracker Island, which featured collaborations with major artists such as Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, Bad Bunny, and Beck. This new project further solidifies their place at the forefront of musical innovation, blending genres and cultures in a uniquely Gorillaz fashion.
