Idles' Energetic Release 'Rabbit Run' Highlights Aronofsky's 'Caught Stealing'

In an exciting fusion of punk rock and cinematic storytelling, Idles has unveiled their raucous new single, “Rabbit Run,” crafted for Darren Aronofsky’s forthcoming film Caught Stealing. This highly anticipated track offers a visceral energy synonymous with the 1990s New York punk scene, adding an electrifying layer to Aronofsky’s film narrative. With the release date set for August 29, audiences can expect a dynamic soundtrack that captures the raw intensity and spirit of this era.

Soundtrack and Musical Contributions

Idles’ “Rabbit Run” stands as one of the four original songs they’ve contributed to the Caught Stealing soundtrack. The band’s involvement extends beyond these tracks as they also performed the complete film score, composed by Rob Simonsen. Music enthusiasts can look forward to a nostalgic cover of Junior Marvin’s “Police and Thieves,” previously interpreted by The Clash on their debut album.

Punk Roots and Film Synergy

The inspiration for “Rabbit Run” draws heavily from the gritty essence of the 1990s New York punk scene, perfectly aligning with the film’s thematic backdrop. Premiering in theaters on August 29, the movie features Austin Butler as a former baseball player turned bartender who becomes entangled with a group of menacing gangsters.

Idles’ frontman Joe Talbot expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity, stemming from a serendipitous meeting with Aronofsky backstage. He remarked, “Darren’s films have, in some ways, made me who I am as an artist. This lucid dream has been a lifetime in the making.”

Collaborative Vision

Darren Aronofsky envisioned Caught Stealing as a “roller coaster of fun,” infused with a punk sensibility that Idles adeptly amplifies. “I don’t think a band has really been tasked with performing a score for a movie. Who better to collaborate with than Idles?” Aronofsky noted, praising the band’s capability to energize his cinematic work.

Rob Simonsen, reflecting on his third collaboration with Aronofsky, highlighted the innovative approach: “They had created original songs for the film, and building a palette that started from their sound was a really satisfying challenge.”

Star-Studded Ensemble

Caught Stealing boasts a stellar cast, including Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, and more. Directed by Aronofsky, the film is based on Charlie Huston’s book, promising a gripping narrative brought to life by both its visual and musical storytelling.

As anticipation builds around Caught Stealing, “Rabbit Run” and Idles’ contributions set the stage for an unforgettable auditory and cinematic experience.
