Troye Sivan has just unveiled “She’s The Best,” the first single from his eagerly anticipated album of the same name. The track features a surprising cameo from his close friend Charli XCX, adding an exciting twist to the release.
Adoring Portraits in Song
The song serves as an adoring depiction of an unnamed woman, with Sivan inviting listeners into the enchantment he feels in observing her. He serenades, “That girl, wow,” expressing sheer awe as he marvels at the charm of this individual. Collaborative Creative Process
The writing and production team behind “She’s The Best” is impressive, featuring Sivan, Jack Antonoff, Leland, Styalz Fuego, and George Daniel, drummer for The 1975 and Charli XCX’s husband, who Sivan had not previously collaborated with. Sivan shared during a conversation at the Rolling Stone Studio that Charli’s contribution at the song’s conclusion is particularly meaningful: “The vocal that you hear at the end of ‘She’s The Best,’ it’s Charli. We’ve found ways to work these women into the songs. Charli is obviously a very, very, very special person to both of us.”
A Collage of Inspirations
Sivan revealed that the anecdotes within the lyrics act as a collage inspired by several women in his life. He noted, “To be able to have made music with Ariana [Grande] or Lily-Rose Depp, then touring with Charli [XCX]… I’ve always just loved being in the orbit of these women.” This song marks a departure for him, as he aims to explore a narrative beyond his own experiences with men: “‘She’s the Best’ was the first time I wasn’t trying to psychoanalyze myself… The one thing that has been constant in my whole life is the women in my life, and the feminine people in my life.”
A Star-Studded Music Video
The accompanying music video features Australian actress Nicole Kidman, whom Sivan first encountered on the set of the film Boy Erased in 2018. He describes her as “such a picture of the divine feminine.” Their collaboration was initiated in a rather amusing fashion; Sivan recalls, “I sent her the song and I showed her some references for the video. In the middle of a Zoom meeting a bit later, I received a call from an unknown number… I slammed my laptop shut and just ended the meeting.”
Anticipation for Upcoming Album
“She’s the Best” stands as the first single from Sivan’s new album, which will be released on October 9. Reflecting on the project, he shares, “There is this high-octane side to the album that feels really bombastic, and then there are the songs that feel like the interior of my mind. There’s this deep sense of longing. The album is a crazy journey.”
