'Superman' Hits $400M Global Mark, 'Jurassic World' Soon at $650M

In a dynamic week for the global movie industry, recent box office performances highlight the enduring popularity of superhero and blockbuster franchises. The keyword “Box Office: ‘Superman’ Surpasses $400 Million Globally; ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Nears $650 Million Milestone” underscores the significant achievements of two major releases. Both films continue to draw substantial crowds, demonstrating their widespread appeal across various demographics.

The Soaring Success of ‘Superman’

“Superman” continues to captivate audiences worldwide, amassing $406 million within its first two weeks of release. The film has drawn $171.8 million overseas, complemented by $235 million in the North American market. Despite a softer than anticipated international response, the comic book reboot starring David Corenswet aims to spearhead a new era for DC Studios, supported by Warner Bros. Future expansions include interconnected spin-offs like “Supergirl” and “Clayface,” slated for 2026, with a new “Wonder Woman” also underway. However, “Superman” will face stiff competition as Disney and Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four” makes its debut next weekend.

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Roars Ahead

Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth” also commands attention, earning $40.2 million from 82 overseas markets in its third weekend. With a staggering $371 million internationally, its global box office total stands at $647 million. Featuring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, the dinosaur saga is among the few Hollywood films to surpass $600 million globally this year. It follows in the formidable footsteps of its predecessors, whose trilogy with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard each grossed $1 billion worldwide.

Newcomers Hit the Box Office

Among the new releases, Paramount’s animated “Smurfs” musical entered the market with $22.6 million from 58 regions, alongside an $11 million domestic debut, totaling $36 million worldwide. Although a slow start for the $58 million-budgeted film, the project is poised to bolster consumer product sales regardless of cinematic universe potential. Popular markets include France, the United Kingdom, and Brazil. The voice cast, led by Rihanna as Smurfette, features talents like James Corden and Sandra Oh.

Sony’s revival of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” also made waves, garnering $11.6 million internationally and $13 million domestically, for a total of $24.6 million. The slasher sequel reunites Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt with a fresh cast, stemming from an $18 million production budget—posing a relatively low hurdle for profitability.

Apple’s Racing Adventure

Apple’s “F1: The Movie” races ahead, crossing $450 million globally. With a $250 million budget, the film has generated $307.2 million overseas and $460.8 million worldwide. This record-breaking performance outpaces any previous Apple film’s total global earnings. The film’s success highlights the magnetic draw of Formula One motorsport and the influence of leading star power.

The current box office narrative, highlighted by ‘Superman’ and ‘Jurassic World Rebirth,’ emphasizes the continued allure of epic storytelling and franchise familiarity across the globe.
