Nino Augustine Merges Afrofusion with Latin Vibes in 'Callaito'

Panamanian musician Nino Augustine is redefining the music scene by blending Afrofusion with his Latin roots in his latest single, “Callaito.” This track embodies a vibrant mix of Afrobeats, Spanish lyrics, and Latin sounds, offering a fresh perspective on the global music landscape. With “Callaito,” Augustine highlights his unique cultural background and commitment to authenticity as an Afro-Latino artist.

A Fusion of Cultures

“The people who often get the spotlight don’t look like me,” Augustine notes, reflecting on his journey as an Afro-Latino artist in a predominantly different space. His new single, “Callaito,” released on Thursday, is a testament to his musical heritage. Augustine infuses a dose of Afrobeats with a Latin twist, creating a unique sound that stands out in today’s music industry.

“For me, being Afro-Latino means living in a constant state of fusion,” he explained to Rolling Stone. “I’m hugely inspired by what’s happening in Africa — there’s an incredible creative energy — but I also can’t forget the music I grew up with.” Nino Augustine’s dedication to blending Afrofusion and his Latin roots illustrates the beauty of creating art from one’s own cultural history.

Maintaining His Musical Identity

By tapping into Afrobeats and infusing them with Spanish lyrics, Augustine speaks to a growing trend in the music world. “Like with reggaeton, after working so hard on a movement, the people who often get the spotlight don’t look like me,” he says. Despite these challenges, Augustine remains hopeful about the future and dedicated to staying true to his identity. “I represent Afrofusion in essence: a little from here, a little from there.”

Collaborative Creativity

Nino Augustine worked with Cuban producer Javier Sampedro Cruz to bring “Callaito” to life, ensuring it aligns with his distinctive musical style. “I’m still that same kid from Panama in love with music, and I think that love comes through in everything we do,” Augustine shares. This collaboration helps cement his commitment to merging Afrofusion with his Latin roots, highlighting his passion and versatility.

Rumors suggest that “Callaito” might be part of a larger upcoming project. Augustine has been hinting at this with artwork showcasing his past tracks, such as “Si Está Bien” with Uproot Andy and “To Ca.” His previous full project, 100%, was released last year, and fans eagerly anticipate what comes next from this innovative artist.
