Nicki Minaj made headlines on election day as she appeared at a polling station in Derry, New Hampshire, while her former legal team pursued a significant claim against her in court. The firm Gordon Recs Scully Mansukhani has renewed its demand for a default judgment, asserting that the rapper still owes them nearly $300,000 for unpaid legal services related to a copyright infringement lawsuit.
Legal Trouble and Outstanding Debts
The law firm filed their request shortly after Minaj’s appearance, stating she breached their agreement by failing to pay $295,605, which includes services, fees, and interest accrued over time. The lawsuit stems from the firm’s representation of Minaj in a copyright case involving her song “I Lied,” which was accused of copying the instrumentation and beat of “onmysleeve,” a track by Julius Johnson. Although the lawsuit was ultimately settled privately and dismissed, the legal firm contends that Minaj has not responded to their previous filings, prompting them to seek a default award in Los Angeles County Superior Court. A hearing is scheduled for November 16.
Minaj’s Political Engagement
As the legal claims were unfolding, Minaj was busy making her political presence known. With police escort, she posed for photographs in front of a campaign sign for Trump-endorsed Anthony DiLorenzo, who recently lost a congressional bid to Democrat Stefany Shaheen. This visit followed a rally in Michigan just days prior, where Minaj led chants of support for former President Trump, dramatically marking her alignment with a figure she once claimed she would never endorse.
Trump’s Support and Controversial Remarks
During the Michigan rally, Minaj garnered attention with her remarks regarding children and gender identity, stating, “We don’t want our children to be bombarded with sex changes, right?” She hinted at her willingness to support Trump should he seek a third term, while he, in turn, publicly acknowledged her presence. “By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before: Nicki Minaj! That’s hard to miss,” he remarked, highlighting their increasingly bizarre alliance.
Previous Legal Issues
This current financial dispute is not the first time Minaj has faced serious legal challenges. Earlier this year, she narrowly avoided the court-mandated sale of her $20 million Los Angeles mansion by settling a $500,000 judgment awarded to a security guard who accused her husband, Kenneth Petty, of assaulting him at a concert in Germany in 2019.
As of now, representatives for Minaj have not commented on the renewed legal request from her former attorneys.
