The Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) Awards showcased excellence in the use of filming locations on Saturday night, highlighting the significant role locations play in the storytelling of motion pictures, television, commercials, and beyond. This year, Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” and Josh Safdie’s “Marty Supreme” took home the top honors.
Celebrating Artistic Locations
“One Battle After Another” was recognized for its outstanding locations in a contemporary feature film, shot in diverse locations across California—including Humboldt County, Sacramento, Stockton, Eureka, Arcata, and San Diego—as well as in El Paso, Texas. Meanwhile, “Marty Supreme” received accolades for its exceptional locations in a period feature film, with filming locations spanning New York City, the greater New York area, the Hudson Valley, New Jersey, and Tokyo.
Television Achievements
The awards also celebrated achievements in television, with “Pluribus,” “Fallout,” and “Black Rabbit” standing out as winners. “Pluribus,” filmed in various locations including Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Spain, won for outstanding locations in a contemporary television series. “Fallout,” captured in California’s Dumont Dunes and Mojave Desert, garnered the award for outstanding locations in a period television series, while “Black Rabbit,” filmed around New York City, took home honors for outstanding locations in a TV anthology, movie, or limited series.
Acknowledging Industry Leaders
The ceremony also honored industry figures making significant contributions to storytelling through location. Four-time Emmy-winning director and writer Vince Gilligan received the Eva Monley Award for his commitment to the craft, particularly noted in his recent work on “Pluribus.” Mike Fantasia, a renowned location manager known for films like “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Killers of the Flower Moon,” was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
