“I love California, I really do,” Lutz reflected, noting that the transition was primarily influenced by the birth of their second child. The family moved from Orange County, where his wife, Brittany Lutz, was born and raised. Even though she hopes to eventually return to California, or at least maintain a “bi-ish coastal” lifestyle, the pandemic prompted many to reconsider their living situations. “A lot of people fled California,” he explained, citing job losses and a desire for a more peaceful existence as reasons for their departures.
Seeking Support and Stability
As they prepared for their move, the Lutz family was influenced by Brittany’s family, who also chose to leave California. According to Kellan, this was essential for maintaining a support system while he is away on work. He described previous situations where Brittany found herself “out of control” when their children fell ill, which motivated the couple to make the significant change. “She’s like, ‘Can we move?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course,’” he recounted.
The Benefits of Franklin
Since settling in Franklin, Tennessee, the Lutz family has found many positives in their new environment. Kellan expressed satisfaction with their decision, stating, “We’re going to give it a couple years and we have, and it’s great.” He highlighted the sense of community, involvement in local churches, and participation in Bible studies, all of which have enriched their lives. According to Kellan, “There’s a lot of great things about Tennessee, especially Franklin where we live.”
Adjusting to Changes
Despite the many benefits, Lutz acknowledged that adapting to life in Tennessee comes with its own challenges. He noted that they are not accustomed to seasonal weather patterns, including the occasional tornado. “My wife goes on red alert, especially when you have kids,” he admitted. Additionally, he and Brittany do miss their favorite foods, particularly good sushi and Mexican cuisine, which are harder to come by in their new home.

Interestingly, Kellan mentioned that since moving, he has attended more movie premieres in Tennessee than he did in Los Angeles over the past couple of years. This speaks to the thriving entertainment community present in Franklin, which contrasts with the couple’s initial assumptions about life outside California.
