In recent years, Eva Longoria has turned her back on her long-time home in Los Angeles, the setting for her iconic role in Desperate Housewives. The actress has found a new lifestyle, splitting her time between Mexico and Spain with her husband, José Bastón, and their son, Santiago.
Leaving Wisteria Lane Behind
Reflecting on her decision to leave Los Angeles, Eva told Marie Claire in November 2024, “I had my whole adult life here. But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different. And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s–t on California—it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
A Sense of Privilege in Change
While the actress acknowledges her privilege in being able to escape, she expressed concern for those who may not share the same opportunity. “I’m privileged,” she stated, reflecting on her lifestyle choices. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
Politics and Professional Opportunities
Interestingly, Eva has clarified that her move wasn’t a reaction to the political climate in the U.S. In a November 2024 appearance on The View: Behind the Table, she explained, “I didn’t leave because of the political environment. I left because my work took me there—shooting six months in Catalonia, then four months in Mexico for Searching for Mexico, then back to Spain. Now I’ve been there for years. So I just don’t like that it’s politicized.”
Staying Busy and Creative
Despite leaving California, Eva remains busy in the entertainment industry. Recent projects include her roles in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip, proving that her career is as vibrant as ever, no matter where she resides.
