Karoline Leavitt Admits 32-Year Age Gap with Husband Nicholas Riccio is ‘Very Unusual’
In a recent candid discussion, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt openly acknowledged that her 32-year age gap with husband Nicholas Riccio is indeed “very unusual.” At just 28 years old, Leavitt has captured public attention not only for her role in the Trump administration but also for the unique dynamics of her marriage to the 60-year-old real estate developer. Their journey together, marked by both challenges and joys, offers an intriguing glimpse into their life as a family.
Surprising Beginnings
Leavitt and Riccio first crossed paths in 2022 through a mutual friend, as Leavitt was on the campaign trail for a congressional seat in her native New Hampshire. Despite her efforts, she narrowly lost to Democrat Chris Pappas. Their relationship progressed rapidly, culminating in their marriage earlier this year, just days before President Donald Trump’s second inauguration.
During an appearance on the Pod Force One with Miranda Devine podcast, Leavitt humorously addressed the unconventional aspects of their relationship. When asked if she ever considered dating someone closer to her age, she responded with a laugh, “Honestly, no, if you want to know the truth.” Her candidness highlights the confidence she has in her choice, regardless of societal norms regarding age differences in relationships.
Family Dynamics and Acceptance
Leavitt also shared some insights about her family’s initial reception of their relationship. Her parents, particularly, faced some initial surprise, partly because her mother is younger than Riccio. However, as Leavitt explained, “But then, of course, once they got to know him and saw who he is as a man, and his character and how much he adores me, I think it became quite easy for them.” This sentiment reflects the evolution of their family bonds as they have all adapted to the unusual dynamic of the marriage.
Now, Leavitt expresses a sense of familial harmony, saying, “I mean, it’s a typical family relationship. My husband has such respect for my parents and the way that they raised me, and we all have a lot of fun together when they come to visit.” Such relationships often face scrutiny, yet her experience showcases the positive aspects of navigating an unconventional partnership.
Contrasting Personalities
Reflecting on the differences between her and Riccio, Leavitt noted, “He’s very introverted, unlike me.” While she is known for her assertiveness during press briefings, Riccio prefers a low-profile lifestyle, staying out of the social media limelight. Nonetheless, she highlighted his nurturing side, describing him as “an incredibly hands-on father” to their son, Niko, who was born in July 2024.
Leavitt praised Riccio, stating, “He and my son are just the best of friends.” Furthermore, she emphasized his support for her professional endeavors, saying, “He’s just an amazing guy and he is my number one fan. He watches every interview, every press briefing.” Such dedicated support is crucial in navigating the complexities of life in the public eye while maintaining personal relationships.
A Life Built Together
Riccio, a successful real estate developer with a portfolio of rental properties in New Hampshire, is described by Leavitt as a “self-made man, which I respect.” She admires how he has constructed his career, enabling him to support her ambitions. Though Leavitt is selective about sharing their life on social media—understandably so, given Riccio’s private nature—she recently delighted fans with family photos from Halloween, showcasing their adventures, including trick-or-treating and visits with Trump.
As Leavitt navigates her role in the White House amidst the backdrop of her personal life, she remains unapologetic about the 32-year age gap with Nicholas Riccio. The unconventionality has not deterred their commitment; instead, it reinforces their bond, making their relationship all the more significant in today’s landscape of familial dynamics.
