Lizzo, the powerhouse vocalist behind hits like “Good as Hell,” has been open about her journey toward feeling better both mentally and physically. In a candid TikTok from May 2023, she shared her motivation for exercising, revealing that her initial aim wasn’t to change her appearance but to enhance her mental health. “Once I started working out for mental health, to have balanced mental health or endorphins, so that I don’t look at myself in the mirror and feel ashamed of myself, and feel disgusted with myself,” she explained.
A Journey Beyond Weight Loss
As she continued her journey, Lizzo acknowledged in January 2025 that she was on an “intentional weight loss journey.” However, she emphasized that her ultimate goal was to become the best version of herself, rather than simply fitting a societal mold. “Even at the end of my weight loss journey, I’m not going to be considered thin by any means,” she stated. “I will still be considered morbidly obese on the BMI and little bros on the internet are still going to call me ‘big backed.’ But I will be happy.” This powerful declaration highlights her focus on self-acceptance and happiness over external validation.
Celebrating Achievements and Setting New Goals
In the same video, Lizzo joyfully showcased her progress, revealing that she had reduced her body fat by 16 percent and lowered her Body Mass Index (BMI) by 10.5 points. “And I am happy,” she exclaimed, encapsulating her transformation narrative. Moreover, she encouraged her followers with a motivational reminder: “Let this be a reminder that you can do anything—anything—you set your mind to.” With that, she confirmed it was time for her to set new goals, framing her journey as one of continuous personal growth.
