Jacob Chase Directs Blumhouse's Gripping Horror 'Sleepover'

Director Jacob Chase, known for his work on “Insidious: Out of the Further,” is set to helm a new horror project titled “Sleepover,” developed in collaboration with Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures. This film, which has garnered attention for its intriguing premise as the “quintessential sleepover nightmare,” is slated for theatrical release on October 8, 2027.

Creative Team Behind “Sleepover”

Chase will direct from a screenplay that he co-wrote with Bryce McGuire, who is recognized for his work on “Night Swim.” The screenplay is adapted from McGuire’s original short story, further showcasing the collaborative effort behind the project.

Success of Chase’s Previous Work

The announcement follows the recent success of Chase’s sixth installment in the “Insidious” franchise, which opened to a commendable $60 million worldwide. Blumhouse Atomic Monster, alongside Sony, produced “Insidious: Out of the Further,” further establishing the partnership with Chase. His filmography also includes the well-received “Come Play.”

Chase’s Philosophy on Horror

Speaking to Variety ahead of the “Insidious: Out of the Further” release, Chase reflected on his craft, stating, “Scaring people is kind of like magic — literally magic tricks — which is also something I had a real affinity for growing up. It’s all misdirection, right? It’s figuring out how you can constantly surprise an audience in the way that the best magic tricks do.”

Production Team and Oversight

Jason Blum will produce “Sleepover,” while Jacob Chase, Bryce McGuire, and Bea Sequiera will serve as executive producers. Lilly Tyson will oversee the project on behalf of Blumhouse Atomic Monster, ensuring the film aligns with the high standards expected of their productions.

Production and Representation

“Sleepover” is a Cinescape Entertainment production, presented by Universal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Chase is represented by CAA, Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman, and The Initiative Group, whereas McGuire is represented by Gersh and Ziffren Brittenham, highlighting the strong representation backing this exciting project.
