Fan Casting Contest Winner Revealed for 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise'

The anticipation surrounding “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” has reached new heights as Lionsgate concludes its fan casting contest. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this announcement, and now Devon Singletary has been named the winner. Singletary’s entry into the franchise marks an exciting chapter in the “Hunger Games” saga, which continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

The Exciting Announcement

Five months after the open casting call was announced, Lionsgate has selected Devon Singletary to join the illustrious cast of “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.” The Florida-based actor and filmmaker will appear in this highly-anticipated sixth installment, set to premiere on November 20, 2026.

Singletary’s enthusiastic reaction was shared on “The Hunger Games” Instagram page, where fans got a glimpse of his excitement. “I’m blown away,” he expressed in the video. “I’m really just speechless. I’m super excited.”

Role and Recognition

Singletary will take on the role of Blair, a close friend of Haymitch Abernathy and Burdock Everdeen, Katniss’ father, in this prequel. Cast members McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, and Joseph Zada joined in congratulating him. His first day on set was a momentous occasion, highlighted by a visit to his trailer, where he shared his passion for the project. “I love the ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ book,” he said. “Being selected into the ‘Hunger Games’ is a great honor.”

From Open Auditions to Onscreen Adventure

The journey to this moment began in May when Lionsgate held an open audition inviting fans to showcase their talents. Participants had the opportunity to act out scenes, perform songs, or improvise, with a chance to appear in “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.”

The film will once again be directed by Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the series since 2012. Joining the stellar cast are Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Jesse Plemons, Billy Porter, Lili Taylor, Iris Apatow, Edvin Ryding, and Ben Wang.

Returning to Panem

“Sunrise on the Reaping,” based on Suzanne Collins’ novel, takes audiences back to the world of Panem, 25 years before the original “Hunger Games” events. The story unfolds on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell, where Haymitch Abernathy first enters the deadly arena.

With its ever-expanding universe, “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” promises to deliver thrilling new adventures and enrich the beloved franchise.
