Nicki Minaj stirred controversy this Election Day by sharing what appeared to be an AI-generated image featuring Chucky, the infamous doll from the horror movie franchise, dressed in a pink suit with a pin that read “Vote Red.” This Republican messaging aligns with the rapper’s increasing support for Donald Trump and the MAGA movement over the past few months, but the post did not go unnoticed by Chucky’s creator, Don Mancini.

Mancini took to his social media account to publicly denounce Minaj’s portrayal of Chucky. In a post written in all capital letters, he stated, “IMPOSTER. CHUCKY IS PART OF THE BLUE WAVE THAT WILL WASH AWAY ALL THE CORRUPTION,” making his political stance abundantly clear.

Expanding on his criticism, Mancini elaborated that Chucky embodies progressive values. He tweeted, “Chucky has a trans kid. Chucky protects the dolls. Chucky is anti-ICE. Chucky says ‘A BLUE WAVE is coming, as BLUE as my fuckin’ eyes!’” This rebranding of Chucky as a figure of activism starkly contrasts with Minaj’s portrayal.

Chucky’s Legacy and Messaging

In a playful jab at Minaj, Mancini also shared an image of a Chucky doll with blue hair, joking, “Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way!” This isn’t the first time Minaj has leveraged the Chucky character; earlier in January, she used an image of the doll in a social media dispute with journalist Don Lemon regarding coverage of anti-ICE protests.
