Chrissy Chlapecka Embraces Her Bold Spirit in Cyberpop 'Apollo'

Chrissy Chlapecka has reignited her fierce spirit with her latest release, “Apollo,” a vibrant cyberpop anthem that marks her triumphant return. After a challenging year that tested her resilience, Chlapecka channels her inner ‘fierce diva’ in this electrifying music video. With themes of self-discovery and empowerment, the song stands as a testament to her journey and queer resilience.

A Journey Through Darkness

On Friday, the Girlie Pop sensation reintroduced herself with “Apollo,” a track born from a year of introspection and healing. “I wrote ‘Apollo’ about the darkness I had felt this year and my longing for the light I once embodied,” Chlapecka shared with Rolling Stone. Through battles with depression, the challenges of being an independent artist, and trauma recovery, she found a voice to speak from the heart.

“This song is about returning to oneself, discovering your true essence despite the darkness,” she continued. The music video, directed by Mikey Harmon, depicts her transformation into a ‘fierce diva,’ emerging as a chromatic superhero ready for her next adventure.

A Visual Spectacle

The video opens with Chlapecka emerging from a futuristic setting, symbolizing her rebirth. As she navigates a spaceship-like scene, the chorus resounds with her desire to chase Apollo’s light. The lyrics, co-written with Dallas Caton, Alexandra Veltri, and Jesse Saint John, capture her quest for self-empowerment. Fans have likened her performance and Alec Cohen’s choreography to Lady Gaga’s early work, particularly “Judas.”

“Today I learned that Lady Gaga had given birth to a pink-haired offspring,” one fan marveled on YouTube, while another declared, “This woman is literally Lady Gaga 2.0 and I’m here for it.”

The ‘Christine’ Era

The single is part of her upcoming EP, Christine, due out on November 21. Following last year’s Girlie Pop, this project includes singles like “Passionfruit,” “Clam Casino,” and “Cherry Do You Love Me.” As an independent artist, Chlapecka immerses herself in both her pain and dreams, tapping into the courage of her childhood self.

“The EP reflects on the hurt I’ve faced and embraces my imagination. It connects me to the girl who dared to dream,” she says. “She is why I was strong enough to rise again and invite the world in.”

Championing Queer Strength

Chlapecka gained attention with her debut single “I’m So Hot” and her mission to redefine “bimbo” as a symbol of empowerment. Open about her queer identity, she has cultivated a loyal fanbase drawn to her genuine expression.

“We need queer artists to be vibrant and fierce,” Chlapecka states. “For all the queer kids who feel small, I hope you’ll see your own bravery and strength. When you fall, you rise even stronger.”
