Box Office Surprises: ‘Weapons’ Soars Past $200M, ‘Materialists’ Gains $85M

In the bustling world of cinema, the box office continues to buzz with remarkable achievements. The main highlight is the global success of the film “Weapons,” which is on the brink of crossing the $200 million mark. Meanwhile, the independent film “Materialists” is also making waves globally, capturing audiences and generating substantial earnings. These films are not only captivating viewers but also setting impressive financial milestones, reflecting the diverse interests of today’s moviegoers.

‘Weapons’ Approaches a Milestone

“Weapons” is set to hit the $200 million milestone at the box office, with current earnings standing at an impressive $199.4 million. The R-rated horror film continues to draw crowds internationally, collecting $13.2 million over the weekend across 74 markets. Its international revenue has reached $83 million in just three weekends. In the United States, it has grossed $115.9 million, with significant contributions from the United Kingdom ($11 million), Mexico ($7.5 million), and France ($5.6 million). These figures are particularly noteworthy for an original horror film with a production budget of just $38 million by Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Continues to Shine

As the summer box office begins to slow, Warner Bros. has cause for celebration with two films, “Superman” and “F1: The Movie,” both crossing $600 million globally. These films are among only a handful to reach such heights in 2025. “Superman” has proven to be more popular stateside, amassing $604.5 million globally, including $347 million domestically. Meanwhile, “F1” has excelled internationally with $603.4 million, including $417 million from overseas markets. These successes are notable as neither film was initially seen as a surefire hit, highlighting Warner Bros.’ knack for captivating audiences worldwide.

‘Materialists’ Gains Global Momentum

A24’s indie romantic comedy “Materialists” is also enjoying a successful run, grossing $85.1 million globally. Over the weekend, it added $6.2 million from 57 territories, raising its overseas total to $48.6 million. Released internationally by Sony, the $20 million production features stars Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans in a love triangle set in New York City. The film has generated significant online discussion, bolstering its appeal both in the U.S. and internationally.

With these box office triumphs, “Weapons” and “Materialists” are not only reaching financial milestones but also securing their places in the hearts of audiences worldwide. Their success stories underscore the power of innovative storytelling and skilled marketing in today’s competitive cinematic landscape.
