Atlantic Music Group Ventures into Country with New Imprint

Atlantic Music Group is making waves in the music industry with the launch of a new country records imprint, Atlantic Outpost. This strategic move marks the latest effort by major coastal record labels to establish a stronger foothold in Nashville, a city renowned for its vibrant country music scene. By expanding their presence, Atlantic Music Group is set to tap into the ever-growing popularity of the country genre. Industry insiders anticipate this new venture will bring exciting opportunities for both established and emerging country artists.

Leadership and Location

Heading Atlantic Outpost are Jeff Levin, co-head of pop A&R, and Ian Cripps, EVP of A&R. The label will operate out of both Los Angeles and Nashville, cities that are vital hubs for the music industry. According to Billboard, the label plans to announce artist signings soon, signaling a rapid progression in its development. While Atlantic representatives have not publicly commented, anticipation is high for the potential impact of this new country imprint.

Nashville’s Growing Influence

Atlantic Outpost is part of a broader trend among major record labels to deepen their ties with Nashville, a city synonymous with country music. Earlier this year, Universal Music Group’s Interscope Records revitalized Lost Highway Records by signing star Kacey Musgraves. Interscope CEO John Janick has tasked Robert Knotts and Jake Gear with leading this initiative. Not to be outdone, Capitol Music Group launched a Nashville division in May, with Candice Watkins at the helm.

Expanding Opportunities

Beyond the major labels, independent companies are also recognizing Nashville’s potential. New York’s Mom + Pop Records tapped Nashville veteran Katie Fagan to lead their new Nashville office, expanding their reach into the country music scene. Additionally, Warner Nashville has been integrated into L.A.-based Warner Records, showing the coasts’ growing influence in Nashville. Executives Cris Lacy and Greg Nadel now report to Warner Records’ leadership, Aaron Bay-Schuck and Tom Corson.

Breaking Through Without Boundaries

Country artists are increasingly signing with coastal labels to find success beyond the traditional Nashville route. Zach Bryan, recently re-signed with Warner Records, exemplifies how artists can thrive while bypassing local labels. Atlantic Music Group has also achieved success with Bailey Zimmerman, whose music is released jointly by Atlantic’s Elektra Records and Warner Nashville. Zimmerman’s upcoming album “Different Night Same Rodeo,” set for release in August, is highly anticipated.

As Atlantic Music Group launches its country imprint, the landscape of Nashville’s music industry continues to evolve. The entry of Atlantic Outpost underscores the genre’s allure and the city’s undeniable influence, promising a vibrant future for country music enthusiasts and artists alike.
