AMC Theatres Breaks Revenue Record with Spider-Man Success

AMC Theatres has achieved remarkable financial success, reporting a record-breaking quarterly revenue of $1.71 billion for the three-month period ending September 30. This figure marks a significant 31.6% increase from the $1.3 billion reported in the same period last year, with the soaring popularity of blockbuster films like “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and “The Odyssey” playing crucial roles in this achievement.

Unprecedented Earnings and Profit Recovery

This quarter’s earnings surpassed AMC’s previous all-time high set in the second quarter of 2026, which was largely driven by hits such as “Project Hail Mary” and “Michael.” Notably, prior to this year’s resurgence, the cinema chain had its highest quarterly revenue pre-COVID, a record achieved in the second quarter of 2019, during the release of “Avengers: Endgame.”

AMC’s financial recovery was evident in its return to profitability, reporting a net income of $109.3 million compared to a substantial net loss of $298.2 million in the third quarter of 2025. The earnings per share stood at 12 cents, a remarkable turnaround from the loss of 58 cents in the year-ago quarter.

A Message from Leadership

“Our journey has not been easy, but today I can confidently say that AMC has recovered,” stated AMC CEO Adam Aron. “To our studio partners, lenders, business partners, employees, and our millions of passionate shareholders, thank you for standing with us through what has often been a brutal road. Mere survival was never our goal; thriving is now our focus, and we are energized by the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead.”

Key Contributors to Record Revenue

Several factors contributed to AMC’s exceptional quarter, including the increasing popularity of premium large formats and their A-List subscription service. The overall box office has rebounded significantly, with this summer marking the best performance since the pandemic began. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has emerged as the third-highest grossing film in history with $2.5 billion, while Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” garnered an impressive $1.8 billion. Domestic theatrical revenue has already surpassed $8 billion, a benchmark that the industry did not achieve until December last year. With major releases such as “Avengers: Doomsday,” “Dune: Part III,” and “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” still to come, this year is poised to be the highest-grossing in the post-pandemic era.

Boost in Concessions and Ticket Sales

As enthusiasm for cinema attendance grows, so does customer spending on concessions. AMC’s food and beverage revenue reached $589.5 million, reflecting a 30% increase from $451.8 million a year earlier. Additionally, ticket revenue climbed to $954.5 million, up 33% from the previous year’s $715.1 million.

Looking Ahead

“Sometimes short but sweet is the best way to summarize performance,” Aron concluded in his statement. “We expect the remaining film slate to propel both domestic and global box offices to their highest full-year levels in seven years. We could not be more enthusiastic about AMC’s prospects as this year draws to a triumphant close.”
