Amanda Seyfried Invites Sydney Sweeney to Join 'Mamma Mia 3'

Amanda Seyfried is once again stirring excitement for a potential “Mamma Mia 3,” this time expressing her desire to bring Sydney Sweeney and Sabrina Carpenter into the fold. Fans of the beloved musical franchise have long awaited news of a continuation, and Seyfried’s enthusiasm for new additions only heightens the anticipation. The possibility of these dynamic actresses joining the cast has sparked widespread interest and conversation.

During a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight at the Governors Awards, Seyfried shared her optimism about “Mamma Mia 3.” She hinted at the film being more than just a possibility, stating, “Maybe I’m just naive, but I’m pretty sure ‘Mamma Mia 3’ is a done deal.” Her comments have certainly fueled hopes among fans eager to see what adventures await Sophie and her family.

The previous installment, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” served as a prequel to the much-loved saga. However, Seyfried envisions the third film picking up with her character, Sophie, in the present day. This progression could introduce fresh characters, with Seyfried suggesting that rather than playing her daughter, pop star Sabrina Carpenter could portray a different family member, such as a long-lost cousin, while Sydney Sweeney would fit seamlessly into this delightful ensemble.

Seyfried expressed her excitement for potential new cast members, saying, “I love portraying a mom, so I would love to see Sophie with her kids. Maybe she has a cousin she hasn’t seen in a while, and that could be Sabrina Carpenter. And then Sydney Sweeney could show up. There’s a bunch of girls that really want to be a part of it, and I’m all for it.”

While “Mamma Mia 3” has not yet been officially greenlit, producer Judy Craymer has confirmed the existence of a script. Seyfried playfully teased potential plot elements, noting, “I just know the three dads are going to come back, and we still won’t know who the dad is because it doesn’t matter. Meryl [Streep] is a ghost, obviously, so she’ll be around. And Julie [Walters] and Christine [Baranski] will be back singing and looking hot and we’re all going to be somewhere tropical. And ABBA will be playing.”

Adding to the buzz, Sydney Sweeney has expressed her own eagerness to join the “Mamma Mia” universe, saying in a 2023 Variety interview, “I’ve always wanted to go to Greece. I love ‘Mamma Mia’ — something like that would be really fun.” With both Seyfried and Sweeney on board, the prospect of a “Mamma Mia 3” continues to dance tantalizingly on the horizon.
