Disney‘s highly anticipated sequel, “Zootopia 2,” has taken China’s box office by storm, breaking records with a spectacular $34 million on its opening day. This remarkable achievement underscores the film’s massive appeal and sets the stage for its global success, making “Zootopia 2” a standout hit in international markets.
Record-Breaking Launch in China
“Zootopia 2,” a dynamic buddy cop adventure featuring anthropomorphic characters, made a resounding impact as it set multiple records in China. The film not only achieved the highest opening day for a U.S. animated movie in the country but also marked the best single-day earnings for any U.S. title there since May 2021.
On a broader scale, it recorded the 10th highest opening day of all time for U.S. releases in China. Audience feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with the movie scoring a 9.7 rating on Maoyan, outperforming its predecessor “Zootopia” (9.5) and other animated hits like “Inside Out 2” (9.1) and “Ralph Breaks The Internet” (8.8).
Global Box Office Success
Globally, “Zootopia 2” has garnered an impressive $81.1 million, with $39.5 million from domestic audiences and $41.6 million from international venues. The film debuted in 17 markets, including major territories like France, Germany, Italy, China, and Korea.
Domestically, it achieved the second highest opening day on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, trailing only “Moana 2” ($57.9 million), and the third highest for a Disney animated feature, following “Moana 2” and “Frozen 2” ($42.2 million).
Strong Reception and International Reach
