Weekend Update Skewers Trump’s Renovations and Bizarre Halloween Customs

In a latest segment of “SNL” Weekend Update, co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che took aim at Donald Trump‘s recent White House renovations and his peculiar Halloween habits. The comedic duo didn’t hold back as they skewered the former president’s unconventional behavior and choices, making for a sharp and entertaining commentary.

### Renovations Meet Ridicule

Colin Jost took a jab at Trump’s renovations, humorously referring to the current state as “what’s left of the White House.” Highlighting Trump’s bizarre interaction with a trick-or-treater, Jost recalled how Trump, reminiscent of 2019, placed candy on a child’s head instead of in their candy bag.

“Just put it in the bag!” Jost quipped, questioning why Trump behaves so oddly even in such straightforward situations. This quirky gesture, Jost implies, symbolizes Trump’s tendency to defy norms, something he did throughout his presidency. The idea of placing candy on a child’s head, rather than in their outstretched bag, is just one in a series of peculiar actions that have left many baffled.

### Halloween Antics

Adding to the humor, Jost and Che poked fun at Trump and the first lady’s choice of music while greeting trick-or-treaters, with Michael Jackson‘s “Thriller” playing in the background. Jost joked, “Just the perfect soundtrack to lure kids to a famous mansion,” playfully critiquing the choice of eerie music for the setting.

### Remodeling Remarks

Michael Che joined in by focusing on Trump’s pride in the remodeling of a White House bathroom and the demolition of the East Wing, a structure that had endured for over a century. Critics labeled the move “tone deaf,” to which Che humorously noted, “But I’m happy that the floor looks slippery.”

### Jabs at International Affairs

The segment didn’t stop at domestic antics, as Jost also highlighted Trump’s recent trip to Asia. In South Korea, Trump was gifted a gold crown and beef patties with ketchup, which Jost likened to a senior’s version of a Happy Meal. He also mocked Trump’s rating of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as “12” on a scale of one to ten, playfully pointing out, “I guess Trump just wanted to show China we’re still way worse at math.”

The Weekend Update continued its tradition of using humor to critique and entertain, offering a lighthearted yet incisive take on Trump’s ongoing peculiarities.
