Kodak Black finds himself embroiled in a legal battle after two men wounded during a 2022 shooting outside a Justin Bieber-hosted party in West Hollywood seek $10.6 million in damages. They allege the rapper instigated the confrontation that led to the chaotic scene.
Legal Proceedings and Default Judgment Request
At a recent Los Angeles hearing, Judge Tiana J. Murillo delayed a trial date concerning this high-profile incident. The attorney representing the men asked the court to enter a default judgment against Kodak Black, as he allegedly failed to respond to the lawsuit. Despite previous rejections due to procedural issues, the plaintiffs aim to meet the court’s requirements for a default judgment this time, setting a new deadline for their submission.
Kodak Black’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, argues against the claims, maintaining that Black was never properly informed of the lawsuit. He questioned the logic of suing someone who was also a victim in the incident, as Black was injured during the same shooting.
The Incident and Initial Lawsuit
The plaintiffs, Adam Rahman and Mark Schaefer, initially sought $62 million, later revising their demand to $10.6 million. This request was denied due to inadequate evidence of damages. Rahman and Schaefer claim that they have evidence of Black’s role in inciting the altercation, which led to gunfire and injuries.
The lawsuit originally named Justin Bieber and the venue owners as defendants. However, the court ruled in favor of the venue, dismissing it from the case, while Bieber was voluntarily removed by the plaintiffs.
Complications in Notification
Rahman and Schaefer allege they served the lawsuit at the home of Black’s mother, further claiming to have mailed documents to him. Cohen disputes this, asserting that Black neither resides with his mother nor is associated with the address used for service. These complications raise questions about the proper delivery of legal documents.
The Aftermath of a Fateful Night
The February 12, 2022 shooting outside The Nice Guy in West Hollywood attracted significant attention due to the notable attendees at Bieber’s party. The incident unfolded during an exclusive Super Bowl weekend gathering, with celebrities like Lil Baby, Drake, and Gunna joining the festivities.
Kodak Black, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, sustained an injury at the event alongside Schaefer and Rahman. Schaefer required surgery for a gunshot wound above his ankle, while Rahman was shot in the shoulder. Despite the drama and public interest, no arrests have been made, leaving many questions unanswered.
