The Tokyo Gap-Financing Market is poised to make waves with its newly launched awards program at TIFFCOM 2025. This exciting development not only highlights the growing importance of the platform but also aims to foster innovation and creativity in the film industry. The initiative marks an important milestone for filmmakers, providing them with both recognition and vital resources to bring their projects to fruition.
< The Launch of the Awards Program >
The Tokyo Gap-Financing Market is introducing the TIFFCOM TGFM 2025 Awards at its sixth edition, slated for October 29-31. The awards ceremony is set to take place on October 31 at Midtown Hibiya’s Lexus Meets venue. Among the honors are the Tokyo Projects Award, which offers a cash prize of JPY2 million (approximately $13,225), and the Asian Gen-Z Award, worth JPY500,000 ($3,305). A committee of five film students, aged 20 to 28, will select the recipient of the latter.
< Special In-Kind Recognition >
In addition to cash prizes, the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market will present two in-kind awards. The Kongchak Award, sponsored by Cambodia-based Kongchak Studio, provides sound post-production services valued at $25,000. Similarly, the White Light Award from Thailand’s White Light offers post-production services of equal value. These awards are designed to elevate the technical quality of the winning projects.
< A Platform for Emerging Projects >
Serving as a key financing platform, the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market draws global attention by facilitating one-on-one meetings between filmmakers and industry professionals. This year, the event will feature 23 selected projects, including 17 live-action and six animation films from Japan, Asia, and beyond.
< Expert-Led Producer Sessions >
Enhancing its offerings, the market is launching TGFM Morning Sessions, targeting producers interested in international co-productions. Scheduled for October 30 and 31, these sessions will cover project markets and funding opportunities. Notable speakers include Tania Morissette from Frontières International Co-Production Market and Jacob Wong of HKIFF Industry.
The sessions will also feature a Fund Talk with experts such as Rémi Burah, CEO of Arte France Cinéma, and Aleksandra Zakharchenko from Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes. These sessions are conducted in English and are exclusive to TGFM participants, invitees, and accredited press.
TIFFCOM 2025, occurring concurrently from October 29-31 at Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-kan, is a part of the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival, running from October 27 to November 5. The combined efforts of these events underscore Tokyo’s growing influence in the global film industry.
