The Traitors Introduces a Thrilling All-Civilian Version

In an exciting shift for one of television’s most intriguing reality competitions, “The Traitors” is set to unveil an all-civilian edition next year. This bold move promises to inject fresh dynamics into the series, known for its mix of strategy and mystery. With the announcement coming from Alan Cumming at the Televerse 2025 conference, anticipation is building around how this new format will unfold. Set to begin filming next spring, the new edition emphasizes greater stakes and more authentic engagement, providing an extended appeal for its audience.

Alan Cumming, the seasoned host of “The Traitors,” confirmed this exciting development during his appearance at the Televerse 2025 conference in Los Angeles. “The money will mean more to them,” Cumming remarked, highlighting the increased emotional investment expected from an all-civilian cast. His enthusiasm for the show’s new direction was palpable as he shared, “I’m pretty excited about it. I think it’s going to be a hoot.”

Historically, “The Traitors” has invited various reality television stars, such as Bob the Drag Queen, Rob Mariano, Cirie Fields, Kate Chastain, and Phaedra Parks, to participate. These familiar faces added a layer of celebrity intrigue to the competitive action. The fourth season, premiering on Peacock in 2026, will continue this tradition by featuring personalities from shows like “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “The Real Housewives,” “Big Brother,” and “Survivor,” along with well-known figures like Ron Funches, Stephen Colletti, and Tara Lipinski.

The announcement of the all-civilian edition stirred excitement among others involved in bringing “The Traitors” to life. Sharon Vuong, executive vice president of unscripted programming for NBCUniversal Entertainment, expressed her eagerness, noting, “We’re excited to bring along ‘The Traitors’ highly addictive fan base as we discover the next generation of legendary gamers and schemers.” Vuong emphasized the potential for thrilling new interactions, as Alan Cumming introduces participants to challenging missions and fascinating gameplay.

Studio Lambert’s CEO, Stephen Lambert, echoed this enthusiasm. “We’re thrilled to be working with NBC to open up the experience to a new group of civilian players,” he said. Lambert anticipates that the fresh narratives and spontaneous strategies these players bring will enhance the show’s unpredictability and addictiveness, drawing viewers into the compelling drama.
