The Mediapro Studio Acquires Global Rights to 'The Marquise' Series

The Mediapro Studio Distribution has secured the international rights to the captivating period series The Marquise, originally titled Leonor, Marquesa de Alorna. This acquisition was part of the dynamic activities at the Berlin Film Festival, where The Mediapro Studio showcased its extensive range of films and TV series. The series, a historical adaptation, is set to enthrall audiences with its rich narrative and historical authenticity.

An Ambitious Adaptation

Adapted from Maria João Lopo de Carvalho’s bestselling novel, The Marquise was brought to life by Pandora da Cunha Telles. The series delves into the story of Leonor de Almeida Portugal, Marquise of Alorna. Known as a poet, diplomat, and revolutionary thinker, she is one of the 18th century’s most compelling figures. The series intricately portrays her as a woman ahead of her time.

A Historical Journey

Across six episodes, the series follows the Marquise’s life journey from her childhood days in a Lisbon convent to her experiences at the royal court in Vienna and the tumultuous landscape of revolutionary France. Witnessing major European transformations, she returns to Portugal with a passion to challenge tyranny and promote education, weaving a tale of resilience and change.

Production and Premiere

Produced by Lisbon’s Ukbar Filmes and Spain’s Tornasol Films, the series is scheduled to premiere on Portuguese broadcaster RTP and Netflix in Portugal. Tornasol Films, known for acclaimed projects like Oscar-winning The Secret in Their Eyes, collaborates to bring this historical saga to a global audience.

Mediapro at the Berlin Film Festival

Besides The Marquise, The Mediapro Studio presented its latest film offerings at the festival, including titles such as Lapönia, Aida y Vuelta, and Mesa de Regalos. The Berlinale Series Market Selects also highlighted two new series: Daniel Burman’s So Far So Good and Hernán Caffiero’s Raza Brava.

So Far So Good, created for Argentine platform Flow, explores the turbulent life of a successful comic book artist facing a mid-life crisis. Meanwhile, Raza Brava explores the intense world of football fandom through the true story of Chile’s Colo-Colo soccer team. Both series add to The Mediapro Studio’s diverse slate of innovative storytelling.

The acquisition of the international rights to The Marquise reflects The Mediapro Studio Distribution’s commitment to delivering compelling narratives that resonate across borders, enriching its portfolio with diverse, high-quality content.
