The Sarajevo Film Festival’s Talents Sarajevo program is set to shine in its 19th edition. Among the highlight mentors are Isaure Pisani-Ferry, the creative mind behind Disney+’s “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld,” a Canneseries winner, and a noted “Fargo” actor. This year’s lineup promises invaluable guidance for up-and-coming film professionals.
The program will host 63 emerging talents from 17 countries, who will participate in eight specialized labs: Acting Studio, Directors Summit, Script Station, Camera Studio, Producers Summit, Editing Studio, Talent Press, and Pack & Pitch. Each lab benefits from the involvement of accomplished mentors.
Expert Mentors Leading the Way
Croatian actor Goran Bogdan, known for his roles in “Fargo,” “Father,” and “The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent,” will lead the Acting Studio. His experience and insights make him an invaluable resource for aspiring actors.
The Directors Summit, newly reimagined with the “One Day From Competition” concept, offers participants a chance to engage with filmmakers whose works are featured in the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival. Leaders like Kukla, Vladimir Tagić, Stefan Đorđević, Georgi M. Unkovski, and Hana Jušić will guide participants through the challenges and triumphs of directing.
Innovative Formats and Collaborative Opportunities
The Script Station adopts a collaborative writers’ room format. France’s Isaure Pisani-Ferry, co-creator of “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld” and Serbia’s Matija Dragojević, co-author of the Canneseries winner “Awake,” will guide participants. They emphasize the importance of maintaining one’s voice within collective storytelling.
In the Camera Studio, North Macedonian cinematographer Naum Doksevski encourages a holistic approach to visual storytelling. His notable works include Goran Stolevski’s Venice award-winning “Housekeeping for Beginners” and Georgi M. Unkovski’s Sundance winner “DJ Ahmet.”
Producers, Editors, and Critics: Essential Roles
The Producers Summit features Israel’s Katriel Schory, a veteran in international cinema. Schory offers strategic insights into balancing artistic vision with the practicalities of film production.
Redžinald Šimek, a prominent Bosnian editor, heads the Editing Studio. He shares his extensive experience in sound, video, and post-production with aspiring editors, emphasizing the critical role of editing in the filmmaking process.
Neil Young guides the Talent Press, offering young critics wisdom on navigating modern digital discourse and engaging audiences responsibly.
Perfecting the Pitch
The Pack & Pitch lab, led by Gabriele Brunnenmeyer and Nick Davies, focuses on the art of project presentation. Participants gain invaluable skills in articulating and packaging their projects, culminating in a competitive pitch session.
