Star-Studded Comedy ‘It’s Alright’ Shines at AFM Sales

Paul Bettany is set to star in the upcoming feel-good comedy “It’s Alright,” where he will portray an ageing pop star. Notably, Bettany also co-wrote the screenplay for the film.

Star-Studded Cast and Crew

Joining Bettany in this project is the rising talent Asha Banks, known for her performances in “My Fault: London” and “Your Fault: London.” In “It’s Alright,” Banks plays his estranged daughter, an aspiring singer-songwriter. The film also features acclaimed actors Colin Firth and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, enhancing an already impressive ensemble.

“It’s Alright” is penned by Scott Stewart and Bettany, focusing on the transformative power of music—how it inspires, heals, and brings families together. Stewart, who previously collaborated with Bettany on “Legion” and “Priest,” will direct the film.

Production Details and Soundtrack

Protagonist Pictures is set to launch international sales for “It’s Alright” at the American Film Market (AFM), while CAA Media Finance is handling U.S. distribution rights. Production is slated to commence in early 2027.

The film will feature an original soundtrack produced by renowned BAFTA-winning music producer Marius de Vries, celebrated for his work on hits like “La La Land,” “Moulin Rouge!,” and “CODA.” Although not a musical, “It’s Alright” will be filled with original songs performed by Banks and Bettany, among other cast members, with Banks contributing her own compositions to the film as well.

Plot Summary

The narrative centers around Peter Sayer, played by Bettany, a once-famous pop star on the verge of financial ruin. After receiving a shocking letter, he decides to meet his 19-year-old daughter, Georgie (played by Banks), who is unaware of his existence. An impulsive decision leads Peter to disguise himself as a music producer, taking Georgie back to London under the pretense of helping her with her demo. As their creative partnership blossoms, Georgie helps Peter resuscitate his faltering career. However, as external pressures from the music industry mount, Peter faces a dilemma—choose commercial success or preserve the magic of the bond he has formed with his daughter.

Thematic Elements and Goals

Diving deeper into its thematic core, Scott Stewart remarks, “At its heart, ‘It’s Alright’ is a story about second chances and the extraordinary power of music to bring people together. Paul and I wanted to tell a story that is funny, moving and full of life, about two people who find their way back to themselves through each other.” The unique blend of Bettany and Banks’ talents is expected to elevate this narrative, further enhanced by the involvement of Marius de Vries in shaping an exceptional soundtrack.

Production Team and Aspirations

Produced by Raindog Films and Pacesetter Productions, “It’s Alright” boasts a team of accomplished producers, including Trish D Chetty, Ged Doherty, and Jessica Rhoades. Executive producers include Alison Mo Massey, Bettany, and Hélène Theodoly, with Protagonist Pictures’ Dave Bishop, George Hamilton, and James Pugh also serving as executive producers.

Asha Banks expresses her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Being a part of a project where film and music can come together so seamlessly is a real dream come true. Georgie is unlike any character I’ve played, and writing her music for ‘IT’S ALRIGHT’ has been the most fulfilling creative challenge.” She is excited to merge her passions on set alongside Bettany and the stellar cast.

Market Potential

Dave Bishop of Protagonist Pictures adds, “We’re thrilled to be launching sales on ‘It’s Alright’ at AFM, which has all the ingredients to be an instant classic and connect with audiences worldwide. Filled with heart, emotion, and incredible original songs, Paul Bettany and Asha Banks will bring to life these two lost souls who save each other through their music.” The anticipation surrounding “It’s Alright” reflects the rarity of films that genuinely embody warmth, heart, and feel-good magic.

Representation

Bettany is represented by UTA and Affirmative Entertainment, while Banks has representation through Sarah Camlett at Independent Talent Group and Will Harper of Sequoia Music Management. Colin Firth and Gugu Mbatha-Raw are managed by Independent Talent (U.K.), CAA (U.S.), and others.
