SNL Weekend Update Roasts Trump's Shocking Cover and Santos Scandal

Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update recently turned its comedic spotlight on an eclectic mix of current events, including Donald Trump‘s Time magazine cover and the release of George Santos. The lively broadcast poked fun at the former president’s controversial decisions and media appearances, engaging the audience with sharp wit and humor. By highlighting these moments, Weekend Update continues to offer a satirical take on the week’s headlines, making it a must-watch segment for viewers.

Trump’s Unconventional Moves

The segment kicked off with co-anchor Colin Jost’s playful jab at Trump’s decision to release George Santos, who had been sentenced to serve over seven years for wire fraud and identity theft. “Yesterday, President Trump finally released what everyone has been asking him to release: George Santos,” Jost quipped, humorously referencing requests for transparency about Trump’s links to Jeffrey Epstein.

Jost continued to interweave comedy with the story of Santos, whose fabrications about his background became legendary. Highlighting Santos’ embellished achievements, Jost joked about his supposed sports feats: “In the clinching game of the NLCS, Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani pitched six scoreless innings, struck out ten batters and hit three home runs, a feat previously only accomplished by George Santos.”

Argentine Financial Aid

The Trump administration’s decision to offer financial support to Argentina also made its way into the segment. Jost remarked on the administration’s plans to double the aid to $40 billion. “Argentine president Javier Milei…met with President Trump at the White House this week, where Trump announced that he’s sending $40 billion to Argentina,” Jost said, cleverly alluding to historical references, “because if history is any guide, a lot of Trump officials will end up fleeing to Argentina.”

Criticism of Trump’s Magazine Cover

Co-anchor Michael Che joined in, addressing Trump’s dissatisfaction with his recent Time magazine cover. “President Trump criticized Time magazine for using a bad picture of him on the cover, saying ‘They disappeared my hair.’ And I’ve got to agree: that thing do look waxed,” Che jested, focusing on the styling of Trump’s photo at age 79.

Injecting some colleague banter, Che also commented on a scandal involving racist and antisemitic remarks among Young Republicans, humorously flipping the controversy back to Jost: “The chat was named: ‘Jost family.’”

Weekend Update’s satirical lens offers audiences a fresh perspective on current controversies. By blending humor with critical commentary, the segment remains a staple in political comedy.
