Slipknot, the iconic heavy metal band, has made headlines with their recent announcement regarding the departure of Sid Wilson, their long-time turntablist and keyboardist. The band posted on social media—a message that has since been deleted—confirming that they would no longer be associated with Wilson, effective immediately. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors,” the band stated in the post that was shared by Stereogum.
Changes in the Band’s Lineup
Sid Wilson, known by his stage name #0, joined Slipknot in 1998 and became a defining part of their sound and identity. His departure marks a significant change in a band that has seen several lineup changes over recent years. Notably, in 2019, Slipknot parted ways with percussionist Chris Fehn following a lawsuit in which Fehn claimed he was owed payment from the band. More recently, in 2023, keyboardist and sampler Craig Jones also left the group, completing nearly three decades of contributions to Slipknot’s unique musical style.
Reflections from the Band
The recent shake-up continues with drummer Jay Weinberg’s exit earlier this year, which the band described as a “creative decision.” Weinberg, who spent ten years with Slipknot, expressed his sentiments about the changes during an interview with Rolling Stone. “Processing it over the last two years, I’ve wanted to take that experience and obviously learn from it. I’m going into creative environments, say a studio or playing live, where there is love for one another, and respect for one another, in ways that I’ve never experienced before,” he said.
The Future for Slipknot
Amid these transitions, Slipknot has also engaged in significant business moves. Last year, they struck a deal with HarbourView Equity Partners, selling a majority stake in their catalog, encompassing both publishing and recording royalties. M Shawn “Clown” Crahan, a founding member of the band, expressed optimism about this new partnership, stating, “After 25 years of taking on the music business, we find ourselves with a partner that is willing to sign onto continuing what Slipknot started. Only they want to go even bigger. Get ready. Hail The Knot.”
