Selma Blair has recently shared an uplifting update on her journey with multiple sclerosis, shedding light on her progress and current state of health. The actress, who was diagnosed with MS in 2018, expressed her relief at being relapse-free for a significant period, highlighting the importance of her experience in raising awareness about the condition. In her conversation with Stellar, Selma Blair provides insight into her personal battle against multiple sclerosis, inspiring many with her resilience.
Positive Progress in Her MS Journey
“I’m very, very lucky. Everyone’s experience with MS is different,” said the actress, reflecting on her unique path since her diagnosis. Since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Blair has reported a positive trajectory in her health, noting that she has been relapse-free for the last couple of years. “That, of course, means the world to me that I’m not, at this moment, accumulating more damage in my brain,” she emphasized.
Gratitude and Advocacy
The 53-year-old actress has also expressed her gratitude for her current state, acknowledging the strides she has made in understanding neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to reorganize itself. “I think I do have a certain place [to speak publicly]. My big mouth likes to see what I can do about stigma,” Blair remarked, underscoring her commitment to help others understand the often-misunderstood world of multiple sclerosis.
Life After Diagnosis
Blair first disclosed her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis—characterized as a potentially disabling disease of the central nervous system—back in October 2018. Since then, she has become an outspoken advocate, utilizing her platform to raise awareness about the complexities of living with MS. Earlier this year, at The Daily Front Row’s 9th Annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards, she joyfully shared that she felt “truly in remission” from her struggles. “I am doing amazingly well. I’ve been feeling great for about a year,” she told People magazine.
A New Outlook for the Future
As her health continues to improve, Blair has found herself exploring new possibilities. “It’s funny, I haven’t spent enough time having dreams. And now it’s like, what are my dreams?” she mused. With her newfound energy allowing her to engage in life’s activities without fear, Blair is adjusting to a life that embraces hope and aspiration, rather than survival alone. Reflecting on her past, she acknowledges the fatigue that overshadowed her days and eagerly anticipates brighter horizons ahead.
