Sam Fender and Elton John Collaborate on 'Talk to You'

Sam Fender has created quite a buzz by teaming up with the legendary Elton John on his new track, “Talk to You.” This exciting collaboration follows Fender’s recent Mercury Prize triumph and features on the upcoming deluxe release of his album People Watching. Fans can look forward to its release on December 5 through Capitol Records, offering an exciting blend of talents that capture the essence of both artists beautifully.

Behind the Collaboration

“Talk to You” emerged from the recording sessions of People Watching at British Grove studios. Sam Fender described it as a reflective piece about the end of a significant relationship, noting its themes of regret and self-discovery. “I was playing around with the riff and thought what I need is a really good pianist and then hmmm, I wonder who I can call? And of course, who better than Elton John,” Fender explained.

On the collaboration, Elton John shared, “Sam was writing and recording in a studio in West London and called to say he’d written a song with a piano riff that he thought would sound great with me playing it. I couldn’t resist, and it was so much fun playing it for him. I truly love Sam. He’s been a friend for many, many years and it’s incredible to see him grow into being a truly world-class artist.”

Mercury Prize Triumph

The track comes on the heels of Fender’s recent win at the Mercury Prize for his album People Watching. Fender admitted his surprise at the accolade during the ceremony held at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, saying, “I just – I really didn’t – we did not expect this at all.” The prize committee praised the album for its rich melodies and expansive nature, calling it “a worthy winner of the 2025 Mercury Prize for Album of the Year.”

The Deluxe Edition

The upcoming deluxe edition of People Watching promises even more for fans, with eight new tracks, including “Talk to You.” Another highlight is “Rein Me In,” featuring the talents of Olivia Dean. This extended release is set to enhance the already acclaimed album, providing a deeper insight into Fender’s evolving artistry.

The album’s success reaffirms Sam Fender’s status as a compelling voice in modern music. Fans eagerly anticipate the new elements that the deluxe edition of People Watching will bring, especially with the exciting addition of “Talk to You” featuring Elton John.
