In an exciting collaboration with director Adam Shankman, Bleecker Street, and World of Wonder, RuPaul will star in a new action-comedy set in the vibrant “Drag Race” universe. This highly anticipated film marks the first feature-length venture from the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” universe, promising a unique and riotous cinematic experience.
A Cinematic Adventure Awaits
RuPaul will transition from television stardom to the silver screen in an as-yet-untitled action-comedy film directed by “Hairspray” maestro Adam Shankman. Bleecker Street has acquired the North American rights, partnering with the Emmy-winning media powerhouse World of Wonder. Scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release in 2026, this film will undoubtedly deliver a blend of humor and excitement, staying true to the essence of the “Drag Race” universe.
An Unforgettable Plot
The film follows the escapades of best friends Tess and DeeDee, train stewardesses who swap their mundane Stank Rail duties for the glamorous Glamazonian Express. A looming “Stormganza” threatens to crash their high-speed train into Los Angeles, compelling them to collaborate with elitist first-class attendants and RuPaul’s character, President Gagwell, to avert disaster. This setup promises a comedic ride reminiscent of “Silver Streak,” but with an injection of fabulous flair.
RuPaul enthuses, “President Judy Gagwell is the part I was born to play. Finally, a role I can sink my dentures into.”

Shankman, reflecting on his long-standing relationship with RuPaul, shared, “I’ve been friends with RuPaul for 30 years and in that time I’ve watched him help change culture with Drag Race. When asked to join this hilarious and unhinged project, I couldn’t resist.”
World of Wonder co-founders, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, expressed their excitement, “Drag queens in charge of America’s first-ever hyperspeed train. What could possibly go wrong? What the world needs now is a disaster movie so twisted it will blow your mind.”

The Team Behind the Magic
Producing the film are World of Wonder’s Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell, RuPaul Charles, and Shankman. Written by Connor Wright and Christina Friel, principal photography begins this fall in Los Angeles. The partnership was negotiated by Bleecker Street’s Miranda King, Avy Eschenasy, and Cinetic Media. Unapologetic Projects also joins as an executive producer and financier.
RuPaul’s illustrious career spans achievements as an Emmy and Tony Award-winning performer and producer. Meanwhile, Shankman is renowned for directing notable films like “A Walk to Remember” and “Rock of Ages.” Both artists bring their extensive experience and talent to what promises to be a groundbreaking addition to the “Drag Race” universe.
