Rosario Dawson recently opened up about her experience filming a cameo for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” revealing that her scene ultimately ended up on the cutting room floor. During a fan Q&A at GalaxyCon in Raleigh, North Carolina, alongside fellow actor Vincent D’Onofrio, Dawson shared insights that left the audience both surprised and sympathetic.
A Brief Return to the Spider-Verse
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Dawson has portrayed Claire Temple, a dedicated nurse to injured superheroes, since her debut in the first season of “Daredevil” in 2015. Over the years, she has reprised her role in several MCU series, including “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” and “The Defenders.” When asked which superhero she would like to work with in future projects, Dawson casually mentioned her connection to “Spider-Man.” She said, “I even shot a scene in the new ‘Spider-Man’ movie, but I got cut out.”
Mixed Emotions About Her Cameo
The revelation prompted groans from the crowd, and Dawson added, “I know. I told my mom, and she was like, ‘That sucks. Now I can’t post the pictures.’ And I was like, ‘Right mom, me being cut out of the movie that has the largest viewership of a trailer ever, the issue is you can’t post the BTS photos.’” Clearly, she saw the humor in the situation but also felt the disappointment of missing out on sharing her behind-the-scenes moments with fans.
Spider-Man’s Personal Significance
Dawson went on to elaborate on her personal connection to Spider-Man, stating that her uncle is a comic book artist who first learned to draw the beloved character. She shared a poignant detail about a recent comic that features a young Spider-Man speaking to Daredevil and mentions a school that Dawson herself attended. “So when I tell you my post was already ready with my BTS, with my grandson wearing all his Spider-Man stuff… Then I got the email that was like, ‘Yeah, nah,’” she said, expressing both pride and frustration regarding her cut scene.
Hope for a Future Collaboration
Despite jokingly calling herself “a reject of Spider-Man,” Dawson remains hopeful about her character Claire Temple’s future within the MCU. “Because everybody’s in it, it still means that my character is somewhere in that same universe, and I really love that,” she remarked. “So, I hope I get to be Claire again.”
