Galicia’s thriving film industry takes a significant leap forward as Pedralonga Estudios introduces a groundbreaking virtual facility named Coruña Immersive Studio. Situated in the bustling port city of A Coruña, this innovative studio promises to revolutionize in-camera VFX technology, solidifying Spain’s position as a top destination for international film productions.
State-of-the-Art Virtual Soundstage
The Coruña Immersive Studio, or CEI, is strategically located at A Coruña’s Cidade das TIC. Spanning 750 square meters (8,100 square feet), the virtual soundstage features a cutting-edge LED screen that is 28 meters (92 feet) wide and 6 meters (18 feet) high. This state-of-the-art setup offers 4K resolution with a 1.9 pixel pitch definition, utilizing Pixotope technology for seamless integration.
José Manuel Deus, managing director of Pedralonga Estudios, shared insights at the Madrid Iberseries & Platino Industria trade fair, stating that the CEI is “tried and tested” and set to officially open on October 8th. The studio has already secured clients for commercials, features, and TV series, further elevating the region’s appeal in the global market.
Backed by Strong Partnerships
Developed at a cost of just under €9 million ($10.5 million), the Coruña Immersive Studio is a collaborative endeavor backed by A Coruña county council and the Galician Audiovisual Cluster (CLAG). This initiative has also received support from the Spanish Government through Next Generation European Union Funds, underlining its strategic importance for the region.
The CEI is part of the expansive Pedralonga Estudios complex, which occupies over 5,500 square meters (59,000 square feet) and is anticipated to open fully in 2026. This development involves ten leading Galician production companies and is endorsed by the Regional Government of Galicia via IGAPE.
Enhanced Production Capabilities
The new facility doesn’t just cater to virtual productions. It will feature two traditional soundstages measuring 2,500 square meters (26,900 square feet) and 2,000 square meters (21,500 square feet), positioning them among the largest in Spain. Additionally, 1,500 square meters (16,150 square feet) are allocated for offices, dressing rooms, and technical areas, ensuring comprehensive support for all production needs.
The launch event, titled “Innovation and Efficiency: Discover the Future of Content Production,” was headlined by key industry figures, including Rosa Ana García and Miguel Ovejero, along with Alfonso Blanco, highlighting the industry’s commitment to technological advancement and efficiency.
With the Coruña Immersive Studio, Galicia is not just embracing innovation but positioning itself at the forefront of global cinematic production, poised to attract filmmakers from around the world.
