Palisades Fire Aftermath: "Big Rock Burning" Documentary Trailer Released

In a powerful exploration of resilience and recovery, the documentary “Big Rock Burning” delves into the aftermath of the devastating Palisades Fire. Executive produced by Mark Hamill and Ricki Lake, this poignant film has premiered on Vimeo, captivating audiences with its compelling narrative and urgent call to action. With its recent trailer release and confirmed streaming date, “Big Rock Burning” promises to be a catalyst for change in communities affected by wildfires.

The Vision Behind “Big Rock Burning”

Directed by David Goldblum, a resident directly impacted by the fire, “Big Rock Burning” offers a deeply personal perspective on the catastrophe that reshaped lives in the Pacific Palisades. This 30-minute documentary highlights the stories of residents as they navigate the challenges of rebuilding their neighborhoods. Goldblum’s intimate connection to the disaster adds authenticity and urgency to the film’s message.

Innovative Release Strategies

Following the arrest of suspected arsonist Jonathan Rinderknecht, filmmakers chose to release “Big Rock Burning” directly to audiences on Vimeo. “Although we were in ongoing conversations with various distributors, the timeline wasn’t aligning with our hopes to make the film available as soon as possible,” Goldblum shared. The decision reflects the film’s mission to offer timely closure and inspire change within affected communities.

Extensive Festival Circuit

“Big Rock Burning” has garnered attention at various prestigious festivals including the Mill Valley Film Festival, Santa Fe International Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, and SCAD Savannah Film Festival. Its initial premiere took place at Malibu City Hall, marking the beginning of its journey to reach broader audiences and generate discussion.

Advocacy and Community Support

As part of the documentary’s impact campaign, Goldblum will present “Big Rock Burning” at the United Nations Headquarters on Oct. 22, alongside esteemed bodies such as the World Bank and Malala Fund, to advocate for legislative changes in land management. Additionally, 10% of the film’s proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu’s Disaster Recovery Services, offering essential support to fire survivors.

Produced by Julie Parker Benello of Secret Sauce Media and James Costa of Bird Street Productions, alongside Goldblum, the project is backed by renowned executive producers, including Marilou Hamill and Oscar-winning director Bryan Fogel. “Big Rock Burning” is more than just a film; it’s a heartfelt plea to reassess and reform how communities prepare for and react to natural disasters.
