Red Carpet at Oscars Thrown Out at Dumpster
A remarkable turn of events occurred when a piece of the iconic red carpet at the Oscars was retrieved from a dumpster by a savvy Los Angeles woman. This incident not only highlights the ingenuity of a content creator but raises questions about the aftermath of one of Hollywood’s biggest nights. As the red carpet at the Oscars was thrown out at a dumpster, it became an unexpected treasure for those in search of unique decor.
A Surprising Discovery
Content creator Paige Thalia stumbled upon discarded rolls of the Oscars’ red carpet during a routine evening walk with her dog near the Dolby Theatre. “I was walking my dog a few nights ago by the Dolby while they were setting up for the Oscars,” Thalia told The Post. With recently moved into a new apartment, she found herself searching for an affordable rug and was thrilled by her find. “I just moved into a new apartment and was looking for a rug for a specific spot…but couldn’t find anything that wasn’t crazy expensive.”
Securing the Carpet
Thalia wasted no time in securing her piece of the red carpet at the Oscars. In a TikTok video shared on Monday, she documented her adventurous retrieval, explaining how security allowed her to scale a few green dumpsters to snatch a roll of the iconic carpet. “When I first moved to LA in 2017 I went to an event at the Dolby the morning after the Oscars,” she recalled. “They had a ripped-up pile of red carpet and let me take a tiny piece!” Her video captured not just her excitement, but also several large rolls of the carpet awaiting disposal.
As she exited the dumpster area, she stated, “If you want some red carpet, it’s at the dumpster on Hawthorne Avenue,” cheerfully cradling the vibrant fabric in her arms.
At Home with Her New Rug
In a follow-up video, Thalia showcased the carpet laid out in her home, where she was seen giving it a thorough vacuum. “Living so close now, and genuinely needing a rug anyway, I thought I’d walk down in the morning and find a crew member dismantling everything to ask,” she explained. Despite her initial belief that she had missed her chance, she was pleasantly surprised to discover the carpet only a block away. “So I didn’t expect it but I often go into things like this with high hopes.”
Social Media Buzz and Backlash
Other individuals confirmed her experience, with one commenter sharing a photo of their own piece of the red carpet later that Monday. However, Thalia faced challenges when she checked back to see if more had been left behind. In another update, she encountered workers who restricted access to the remaining carpet, explaining, “They moved it back behind the security gate and would not let anyone have it.”
Thalia made light of the situation, stating in her video, “I’m sorry I brought attention to it before you guys could all get some.” Meanwhile, a photo depicting trash strewn across the Dolby Theatre, including discarded water bottles and snack packets, sparked discussions about the environmental responsibilities of celebrities. One critic notably questioned, “Aren’t some of them environmentalists? Where’s all that ‘protect the planet’ energy now?” A representative from the Academy dismissed the backlash as a miscommunication.
As the afterglow of the Oscars faded, the tale of the red carpet finding its way to a dumpster, and into the hands of a resourceful local, showcased not only the glitz and glamour of the event, but also the more human sides of modern-day living and environmental irony.
