Netflix Rolls Out Red Carpet for 'Nouvelle Vague' Premiere in LA

Netflix is set to make a splash at The American French Film Festival in Los Angeles with the red carpet premiere of Richard Linklater’s new film, “Nouvelle Vague.” This highly anticipated event marks a convergence of Hollywood glamour and international cinema, highlighting the festival’s commitment to celebrating cross-cultural storytelling. The premiere underscores the enduring influence of French cinema and its iconic auteurs, with Linklater’s film offering a fresh take on a pivotal era.

Hollywood Awaits “Nouvelle Vague” Premiere

Following the success of Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Perez,” Netflix returns to host the red carpet event for “Nouvelle Vague” at The American French Film Festival (TAFFF) in Los Angeles. This film, which creatively revisits the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s seminal work “Breathless,” will be a highlight of the festival’s 29th edition. Set to screen on October 30 at the DGA theater on Sunset Boulevard, it will launch theatrically on October 31 and be available on Netflix starting November 14.

Celebrating the Legacy of French Cinema

Featuring Guillaume Marbeck as Jean-Luc Godard, Aubry Dullin as Jean-Paul Belmondo, and Zoey Deutch as Jean Seberg, “Nouvelle Vague” explores the vibrant creativity sparked by the French New Wave in 1959 Paris. The film, which premiered at Cannes to critical acclaim, captures the artistic spirit that defined an era. Taylor Hackford, a board member of the Franco-American Cultural Fund, emphasizes the film’s role in echoing the cultural exchanges between French and American filmmakers.

Recognition and Anticipation

Hackford describes Richard Linklater as an “American Auteur,” lauding his decision to honor one of French cinema’s legendary figures in “Nouvelle Vague.” The film is produced by Laurent Pétin and Michèle Pétin at ARP Sélection and is anticipated to be shortlisted by France’s Oscar committee. Additionally, Netflix plans to campaign for its recognition in various Oscar categories.

Festival Highlights and Broader Line-up

The festival will open with Rebecca Zlotowski’s psychological thriller “A Private Life,” featuring Jodie Foster, Daniel Auteuil, and Virginie Efira, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Classics. This year, TAFFF has extended its schedule by a day, running until November 3. The complete lineup for the 29th edition will be revealed on September 30, promising an exciting array of films that celebrate the enduring legacy of French cinema.
