Miramax has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with the Doha Film Institute (DFI) focused on enhancing Arabic scripted content across the Middle East and North Africa. This strategic alliance aims to bolster the regional film industry by nurturing new talent and enhancing storytelling capabilities.
Empowering Arabic Scripted Content
The renowned U.S. film and TV studio, owned by Qatar’s beIN Media Group and Paramount Global, is launching the DFI for Miramax writer’s program. This initiative is designed to provide emerging and established Arab screenwriters with essential training, mentorship, and production and distribution funding. By focusing on Arabic scripted content, the program seeks to bring unique stories from the region to a wider audience.
Boosting Regional Creative Projects
Each year, the program will select up to five local and regional projects. By offering these projects critical support, they aim to expand the series content output and further solidify Qatar’s reputation as a leading media hub. This effort ties into DFI’s ongoing film and TV programs, creating an integrated approach to bringing Arabic scripted content to life. As noted in a joint statement, the initiative will also grant direct access to Miramax’s extensive distribution network, reaching audiences worldwide.
Voices Without Borders
“At Miramax, we believe great storytelling knows no borders,” stated CEO Jonathan Glickman. “This partnership with DFI amplifies emerging Arabic-language voices, sharing their stories with audiences globally.” Glickman’s words reflect the core mission of promoting Arabic scripted content and making cultural narratives more accessible.
DFI CEO Fatma Hassan Alremaihi shared, “Our partnership with Miramax is an exciting new chapter in championing original Arabic-language content. By crafting stories in our own voice, we preserve our heritage and connect communities through cinema’s universal language.”
Expanding Horizons
As the Doha Film Institute broadens its activities, including the upcoming launch of the Doha Film Festival in November, its influence on the Arab indie film scene continues to grow. The DFI’s ongoing commitment also includes funding for Arab TV series, further expanding the opportunities for high-quality Arabic scripted content development in the region.
