Michelle Pfeiffer is not ready to bid farewell to Hollywood just yet. In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, the star of French Exit clarified rumors surrounding her retirement, firmly stating that she does not plan to walk away from the film industry.
Clarifying Retirement Rumors
During her conversation with host Jimmy Fallon, Pfeiffer dismissed speculation about her retirement, emphasizing, “No … I mean, it’s the most ridiculous thing. They’re always saying I’m retiring. Where does it say I’m retiring?”
Fallon reminded her of comments she made earlier this month suggesting she might step back from starring roles, which she discussed at THR x Apple TV’s Leading the Narrative: The Women of Apple TV event. At that event, she stated, “I never want to star in another movie, I swear to God. I only want to do ensemble pieces.”
Context Matters
Pfeiffer later explained to Fallon that her previous remarks were “taken out of context.” She elaborated, saying, “All that I said was that I really love working with an ensemble cast.” When Fallon joked about the potential backlash of her statement, Pfeiffer admitted, “I knew the minute it came out of my mouth. Of course, I want to star in another movie.”

Pfeiffer has received critical acclaim for her recent television performances in Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Paramount+’s The Madison. Expressing her passion for ensemble work, Pfeiffer stated, “It’s wonderful to be able to live with a character for such an extended period of time and you can really just go deeper and find all of the different layers. But it’s also really wonderful and most important to me that I get to work with all of this talent.”
