Marvel's Spider-Man Joins Magic: The Gathering in New Card Reveal

Magic: The Gathering is set to enchant players with its latest collaboration, unveiling two new cards in its crossover with Marvel‘s Spider-Man. This exclusive reveal showcases the intriguing blend of Magic: The Gathering’s strategic gameplay with the beloved web-slinger universe, bringing an exciting new dimension to fans of both franchises.

Wizards of the Coast is set to launch Magic: The Gathering’s latest collection, which features the iconic Marvel superhero Spider-Man, later this month. An exclusive preview from Variety reveals two cards from this eagerly anticipated set.

According to the Hasbro-owned Wizards of the Coast, this release signifies “a new chapter” in Magic’s ongoing relationship with Marvel. Notably, this partnership gained momentum last year with the introduction of a limited-edition Secret Lair series. These unique collections stand apart from the regular cycles of Magic cards, offering fans exclusive and time-sensitive options.

A Web of Exciting Characters

Set for release on September 26, this Spider-Man collection promises players a series of thrilling encounters. It features iconic characters such as Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Gwen Stacy, as well as notorious villains including Venom, Green Goblin, and Doctor Octopus. The cards capture the high-octane action and heroics of the Spider-Man universe through original artwork and gameplay mechanics that highlight the character’s agility and ingenuity.

The set boasts artwork by legendary comic artists including Jack Kirby, Todd McFarlane, John Romita Sr., Mike Zeck, and Bob McLeod. Special highlights include Showcase Scene cards, which combine to create a spectacular tableau reminiscent of classic comic book pages. Additionally, the collection introduces the MCU’s Infinity Stones to Magic, starting with three variations of the Soul Stone card.

Exclusive First Look: Spider-Man No More & Wall Crawl

Variety offers an exclusive glimpse at two of these new cards: “Spider-Man No More” and “Wall Crawl.”

“Spider-Man No More” harks back to the classic storyline where Kingpin was introduced, featuring art by Aniekan Udofia that evokes the memorable panel of Spider-Man abandoning his costume. This card, alongside Path to Exile, allows players to experience this pivotal narrative within Magic: The Gathering.

Meanwhile, “Wall Crawl” brings a classic Spider-Man maneuver to life, mixing it seamlessly with Magic’s strategic gameplay. This card highlights the web-slinger’s iconic wall-crawling ability, reminding players of the early days of Magic when the ‘wall’ creature type couldn’t attack before the introduction of the Defender keyword.

Expanding Universes Beyond

The collaboration with Marvel’s Spider-Man is part of Wizards of the Coast’s broader “Universes Beyond” initiative, which explores intellectual properties outside the Magic universe. Recent partnerships include collaborations with Square Enix for a “Final Fantasy” card collection and a Sonic the Hedgehog-themed Secret Lair drop with Sega.

Magic: The Gathering’s Spider-Man collaboration is a testament to its versatility, combining strategic depth with beloved pop culture icons, offering fans an exhilarating blend of storytelling and gameplay.
