Maks Chmerkovskiy Criticizes Jan Ravnik's DWTS Casting Decision

In a surprising twist on the dance floor, Maks Chmerkovskiy has voiced strong objections to a recent decision by “Dancing With the Stars.” The former pro dancer is outspoken about his concerns regarding the casting of Jan Ravnik, one of Taylor Swift’s backup dancers, as a professional partner for the show’s 34th season. Maks’s critique shines a light on the standards and expectations within the beloved dance competition, sparking discussions about expertise and experience in dance.

Criticisms of Jan Ravnik’s Casting

Maks Chmerkovskiy didn’t hold back on his thoughts, expressing significant frustration over Jan Ravnik’s role on DWTS. During an episode of “The Penthouse With Peta” podcast on October 24, hosted by his wife Peta Murgatroyd, Maks shared, “I’m sorry, Jan has absolutely no business being a pro on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ There’s zero foundation technique, quality, understanding of the partnership. Bro, I’m getting emotional. It is absurd, and this is unreal how blind we have to be and God forbid say what’s obviously there.”

Performance Evaluation

Chmerkovskiy specifically pointed to the performance by Jan and his partner, Jen Affleck, on the recent Wicked-themed night. He criticized, “He had no idea what foxtrot is supposed to look like. How are you going to expect him to teach it and deliver that message in a format that is completely different from even ballroom dancing? We had this criticism weeks ago, and I’m like, ‘Bro is anybody going to explain it to him?'” This concern underscores his belief that the fundamentals of ballroom dancing are crucial for the show’s integrity.

Maintaining Dance Standards

The remarks by Maks bring into question the qualifications necessary for someone to be deemed a professional dancer on such a high-profile show. His comments suggest that a deep understanding of ballroom dance is essential for the role, as it ensures both quality performances and fair competition. Chmerkovskiy’s passion for dance and high standards are clear as he emphasizes the importance of technical proficiency and understanding in guiding celebrity partners.

As of now, neither ABC nor Jan Ravnik has responded to the comments made by Chmerkovskiy. His critique has certainly opened the door for broader conversations about the criteria used for professional dancer selections on “Dancing With the Stars.”
