Exploring New Horizons at the WAVES Film Bazaar
The WAVES Film Bazaar serves as a vital platform within the International Film Festival of India, fostering creative collaborations and facilitating discussions on upcoming projects. Among the selected films, Bhandarkar’s “Shadow Hill: Of Spirits and Men” stands out with support from Kindling Pictures. The film’s intriguing plot follows two men on a treasure hunt in Goa, driven by their personal quests for truth and escape. A mysterious woman and her tales become the catalyst for their discoveries, weaving a narrative that combines comedy, tragedy, and themes of memory and loss.
From Inspiration to Cinematic Vision
Bosco Bhandarkar, inspired by memories of summer holidays spent in a Goan village, aims to mirror the beauty of human connection in trying times. “The idea is to find love as a counterforce to cynicism,” he states, highlighting the film’s underlying hope for humanity. Addressing urgent issues, Bhandarkar sheds light on the ecological and social challenges posed by rapid urbanization in Goa, critiquing the impact of the booming real estate market and political corruption.
A Unique Collaborative Journey
The longstanding professional relationship between Kiran Rao and Bhandarkar adds depth to this endeavor. Rao describes Bhandarkar’s work as “unusual, mischievous, and deeply human,” appreciating his ability to reveal life’s complexities through humor and vivid imagery. Kindling Pictures, co-founded by Rao and producer Tanaji Dasgupta, is heavily invested in bringing this unique project to life.
Kindling Pictures is actively seeking co-producers and financiers to join them in this venture, having already committed to 25% of the film’s budget. The company is focused on forging strategic partnerships to fully realize Bhandarkar’s artistic vision. “We believe it embodies a rare balance of humor, poignancy, and danger,” Rao asserts, expressing excitement about the cinematic potential of “Shadow Hill: Of Spirits and Men.”
