Kim Cattrall is detailing her life after ‘SATC’ out of the country, revealing how her journey has transformed since her iconic role as Samantha Jones. In a recent interview with People, the 69-year-old actress shares insights into her daily life, the choices she makes for personal growth, and the joy she finds in nature and solitude. As she navigates through different countries, Cattrall reflects on how her career and personal experiences have shaped who she is today.
A Sanctuary on Vancouver Island
Since wrapping up the beloved HBO series over 20 years ago, Cattrall describes her life as constantly evolving. “Every day is a little bit different,” she admits. Currently, she enjoys the tranquility of her home on Vancouver Island, which she calls her “hideaway and basically my paradise.” Surrounded by nature, Cattrall indulges in peaceful walks and rediscovering literature. “It’s long walks. It’s reading books I’ve never had the time to read – or reread. I love women’s fiction,” she explains. This solitary lifestyle, shared with her partner Russell Thomas, has become a cherished routine.
Connecting with the Past
Yet, Vancouver Island is just one chapter of her life. Cattrall frequently travels to England and New York City, two places that hold significant memories for her. “I also spend time in London, which is a great deal of where I’ve been the last 15, 20 years,” she notes. “And then there’s New York City, which will always be in my heart.” These trips to urban environments contrast beautifully with her peaceful retreat, creating a well-rounded lifestyle that balances solitude and social interaction.
Defining Herself Beyond Samantha
Reflecting on her career, Cattrall emphasizes a shift in focus. “I think it defines me less,” she explains about her characters. Over the past decade, she has dedicated more time to exploring her identity outside of her work. “Kim has taken over, and not the characters she’s played, in a very definite way. The last 10 years have been more about exploring me, not connected to my work, but my own choices.” This newfound freedom allows her to pursue roles that resonate personally with her rather than being confined by how her iconic character is perceived.
Continued Passion for Acting
Although she stepped back from her iconic role in the recent series “And Just Like That,” Cattrall remains committed to her craft. “It’s all about the writing,” she insists, highlighting her desire for meaningful projects. “I don’t want to be on a set and realize that the character I’m playing is a character that I’ve already played many, many times before.” Her focus is not just on the roles available to her but on characters that challenge her creatively.
Cattrall is currently developing two new projects, though she remains tight-lipped about the details. “I’ve got two dream projects in development right now, and they’re really good,” she shares. “Two very different characters, but just a blast to play. I’m saying yes to what challenges me.” This attitude reflects her commitment to continuous growth, both personally and professionally, as she embraces life after the final credits rolled on ‘SATC.’
