Kamala Harris has expressed regret over missing an opportunity to appear on Joe Rogan’s podcast during her presidential campaign. She recently addressed this on The Diary of a CEO podcast, emphasizing the significance of podcasts as a medium for reaching the public. The vice president’s acknowledgment sheds light on the intricate dynamics that unfolded between her team and Rogan’s, and how they ultimately impacted this high-profile potential podcast appearance.
The Missed Opportunity
Speaking on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Kamala Harris articulated her desire to participate in Joe Rogan’s podcast, citing the platform’s power in disseminating information. “I wanted to do Joe Rogan’s show, and there was a lot of games being played,” Harris remarked, highlighting the influential role podcasts play in public discourse.
Conflicting Reports and Scheduling Confusion
The situation became a topic of contention between Harris and Rogan’s teams. According to Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House, Harris’s team had adjusted her schedule for a potential appearance, only to be informed that Rogan was unavailable due to a “personal day,” coinciding with Trump’s appearance on the show.
In response, Rogan claimed that Harris’s team never finalized her participation. He mentioned considerations to align her appearance with Trump’s, potentially even on the same day, stating, “[That was] my goal… So the night that Trump came on, I’m like, ‘What if we do her when she’s done in [Houston], if she came here?’”
Strategic Concerns and Public Perception
Harris revealed that strategic advice influenced her decision to avoid Rogan’s podcast, driven by concerns over perceived bias. “I was advised not to because they assumed, as it turned out to be correct, that he was supporting Trump,” she shared, comparing it to her appearance on Fox News despite its perceived biases.
She emphasized the opportunity such platforms offer to engage open-minded listeners, stating, “There are people that listen who are open minded, and I’m going to go there and give them a chance to get to know me.”
Reflecting on the Campaign Decision
When reflecting on whether she should have insisted more firmly, Harris admitted uncertainty about its potential impact on her campaign. She acknowledged the challenges of balancing time and votes during this period, stating, “I regret that we didn’t do it. I definitely regret that we didn’t do it.”
Despite the missed opportunity, Harris’s reflections on the Joe Rogan podcast experience highlight the complexities of media engagements during a high-stakes presidential campaign, underscoring the broader implications of such strategic decisions.
