With anticipation surrounding the project, Garner’s comments shed light on its current status and her own connection to the legendary pop star.
Garner’s Commitment to the Role
In a candid discussion on the “SmartLess” podcast, Garner confirmed her continued involvement in the Madonna biopic, which is set to be directed by Madonna herself. “That’s supposed to still happen,” she stated, expressing her admiration for the Queen of Pop. “I’m such a fan of Madonna,” she added, highlighting how her childhood was filled with the music of the iconic artist.
Navigating the Audition Process
Garner opened up about her journey to landing the role, explaining that it felt like a natural progression. Once she became aware of the project, she felt compelled to audition. “I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it, because I wasn’t a trained dancer,” she noted. Garner revealed that preparing for her audition required her to not only learn how to dance but also to perform in front of Madonna and demonstrate her singing abilities. “I had to learn how to dance and then dance in front of her and convince her that I can dance, basically, and sing,” she remarked with a sense of determination.
Preparing Like Madonna
In her preparation for the audition, Garner embraced a mindset inspired by Madonna herself. “I asked myself, ‘OK, what would Madonna do?’” she shared. This introspective approach led her to embody the confidence necessary for the audition. “I was kind of like, ‘You can take it or leave it, but if you leave it, if I leave, then that’s on you,’” she explained, highlighting the bold attitude she adopted during the process.
Assuring Fans About the Film’s Future
With the project having faced delays, Garner reassured fans that there’s no need for concern. “Anything that’s great…takes a long time,” she stated, promoting patience in the face of uncertainty.
