Indonesian Film Legends Revive with Live-Action 'Na Willa' Adaptation

The celebrated creative team behind Indonesia’s record-breaking film “Jumbo” is coming together once more, this time to craft a live-action adventure. Their latest venture, “Na Willa,” is a heartfelt adaptation of Reda Gaudiamo’s beloved children’s novel, promising to enchant audiences with its depiction of family life in Indonesia.

Visinema Studios is at the helm of “Na Willa,” bringing back director-writer Ryan Adriandhy alongside producers Anggia Kharisma and Novia Puspa Sari. This marks their second collaboration following the enormous success of “Jumbo.”

Bringing the 1960s to Life

Set against the backdrop of 1960s Surabaya, “Na Willa” tells the story of an imaginative young girl navigating the complexities of daily life. The film is a celebration of childhood and the vibrant cultural tapestry of Indonesian families, aiming to capture the innocence and beauty of growing up during this era.

This live-action rendition also marks Ryan Adriandhy’s debut in the genre, following his notable achievements in animation. Leading the cast is newcomer Luisa Adreena as Willa, joined by seasoned actors Irma Rihi and Junior Liem.

A Visionary Project

“’Na Willa’ transcends traditional storytelling,” remarks Herry Salim, group president and CEO of Visinema Studios. “Our aim is to create a film that offers an unforgettable visual and emotional journey.” His comments highlight the ambition behind the project, emphasizing its emotional depth and visual appeal.

Director Adriandhy expressed his connection with the story, saying, “I fell in love with ‘Na Willa’ from the first moment. It’s a story of honesty and simplicity.” His vision is to bring to life a world seen through a child’s eyes, filled with wonder and discovery.

Confidence in Adaptation

Author Reda Gaudiamo expressed her trust in the team by stating, “I know ‘Na Willa’ is in the right hands, and I can feel the warmth in every detail.” Her confidence in the production underscores the authenticity and care with which the adaptation is being approached.

Scheduled for a 2026 release in Indonesia, “Na Willa” is poised to add to Visinema Studios’ impressive legacy. The studio’s recent successes, including their expansion into international projects like “Panggil Aku Ayah” and a special episode collaboration with Pinkfong, demonstrate their growing influence in the cinematic world.

With “Na Willa,” the “Jumbo” team is set to once again capture hearts and imaginations, shaping a narrative that blends nostalgia with innovation. As the film moves into production, anticipation builds for yet another standout entry in Indonesia’s dynamic film industry.
