In a spirited defense of Irish rock band Fontaines D.C. and their latest album, Dopamine Chamber, Paramore’s Hayley Williams has addressed criticism from some online detractors who struggle to embrace the band’s musical evolution. Williams passionately emphasized the importance of recognizing artistic diversity and depth in music.
Fontaines D.C. Releases New Album to Mixed Reactions
Fontaines D.C., the acclaimed band from Dublin, released their fifth studio album on Friday, October 16, 2026, following the success of their previous work, Romance, which was both Mercury-nominated and highly praised. Despite receiving widespread acclaim, particularly for tracks like the lead single ‘Marianne’, the introspective ‘Tongue’, and the cinematic collaboration with Rosalía titled ‘Where Is Gone?’, some fans have expressed a preference for the band’s earlier material.
Hayley Williams’ Support for the Band
In a recent post on Substack, Williams shared her admiration for Dopamine Chamber, stating, “New Fontaines is so good if you’re not one of those guys on the internet who can’t conceptualise that great bands are made of people who are multi-faceted and stylistically versatile.” She expressed a personal connection to the music, wishing she could have penned some of the album’s choruses and poetry. Her standout tracks from the LP include ‘Demolition’ and ‘Happy For You’.
Anticipation for Upcoming Shows
Williams is set to join Fontaines D.C. as a supporting act during their extensive outdoor concert series in summer 2027, expressing her excitement: “Cannot wait to open for them so much next year at Laneway and Slane.” The album has already achieved significant recognition, receiving a five-star review from NME, which described it as a “dark but exhilarating reflection of end times.”
Future Directions for the Band
Frontman Grian Chatten also highlighted the significance of collaborating with Rosalía on the record, calling it a “career high.” In addition to their album promotion, the band recently performed an intimate set at London’s Roundhouse to support mental health charity CALM.
Looking ahead, Chatten hinted at a forthcoming solo project, indicating that the band might take a break once their upcoming shows conclude. Their tour will include major concerts across the UK and Ireland, with key performances scheduled at Slane Castle and Manchester’s Heaton Park. Alongside Hayley Williams, other opening acts include Little Simz and Viagra Boys.
Fontaines D.C. also expanded their tour to include new dates in Italy and Germany in 2027, as well as concerts in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. They will headline the prestigious Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona next June, ensuring that their artistic journey continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
