Prince Harry Playfully Teases Meghan Markle’s Cooking
In the Netflix special titled “With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration,” Meghan Markle teamed up with renowned chef Tom Colicchio to whip up a batch of gumbo. As Prince Harry made his entrance, the aroma of the dish filled the room, and he wasted no time in expressing his culinary preferences.
“Hi guys. I smell gumbo,” said Harry, who noted that while he thoroughly enjoys Markle’s cooking, his favorite version comes from her mother. “Gumbo, for me, is one of my favorites. Especially her mom’s … but before the fish goes in,” he added, eliciting laughter.
Meghan shared the intimate family tradition, revealing that her mother, Doria Ragland, prepares the dish every Christmas Eve and sets aside a special portion just for Harry. “My mom does the turkey sausage for you, so this one has more kick to it,” Meghan explained, sweetly offering a towel to her husband in case the spices proved too intense.
After sampling the gumbo, Harry humorously critiqued the dish. “I can feel it puncturing through the top of my head right now,” he remarked. “It is delicious. I’m not so sure it’s as good as your mum’s, but it’s certainly close.” His cheeky comment left Markle in playful disbelief, exclaiming, “What?! Oh my God!”
Markle quipped back, “My mom will love you for that. You know what? What a good thing to say for your mother-in-law.” To which Harry replied, “Exactly,” further adding to the warmth of their interaction.
Markle Shared a UK Holiday Tradition
In addition to cooking, Markle embraced British traditions by creating homemade Christmas crackers, an essential part of the festive season in the UK. “Living in the UK, it’s such a part of [the culture] for Christmas holidays, for sure,” she noted with enthusiasm.
Describing the experience, Markle explained how families unite to pull the crackers apart, often crossing their arms while doing so around a table. “It actually does feel really connected and sweet,” she said, capturing the spirit of togetherness the tradition brings.
Moreover, the Duchess of Sussex engaged in a creative endeavor by painting holiday plates alongside tennis star Naomi Osaka. “It’s important to always try things that we’re not so great at, which I should remind myself when I try to draw or get on a tennis court,” she revealed.
Self-deprecating as ever, Markle added, “I am so painfully bad… No one needs to see it. It’s so bad.” This candid admission added to the charming atmosphere of the special, emphasizing that even royalty has moments of humility and fun.
